So far I have...

Oscar robertson
Jabbar
D.Robinson (& popavich)
Moses Malone

Who else?

It also has to be within that star's first three years too.

Who was the greatest mentor?

Dwyane Wade.

Taught Lebron how to win.

Didn't read OP, but will still leave this here.

disagree on admiral and pop. duncan w/o them probably goes down as a greater all time player. he's never had the individual numbers and was bogged down in that respect by pop. I say with a coach like Phil jackson duncan has at least the same amount of rings AND the gaudy stats. w/o pop TD = goat

Hakeem with Yao, Dwight, Kobe, LeBron, etc.

EDIT: Oh never mind, just saw within first three years. He still taught Yao in his first few years I think?

he did. he then offered to train him and get him into shape, and charles worked his way into the starting line-up soon afterwards.

moses also trained hakeem really well during his college days.

jordan helped kobe obviously.

i think gp mentored kidd too

I'd say Kobe.

He turned 0-16 in the playoffs Pau without Kobe to a two time champion with Kobe. Pau is now regarded very highly because of his stint with Kobe.

He turned Lamar Odom into a legitimate third option for back to back world titles. Without Kobe, Odom is smoking crack in dark alleys and sleeping with STD infested hookers.

He turned the much maligned Artest into a world champion. After Kobe, Artest has resorted to wearing shoes with pandas on them and beating up small China men.
