View Full Version : Who's better in 2014 - Kobe Bryant or Jimmy Butler?

I'd say Jimmy Butler. He has developed into a go to scorer and is one of the best wing defenders. Your thoughts?

if Jimmy was in Kobe's position he wouldn't be the same. Kobe is the leading scorer and playmaker for his team at 36 years old playing with a bunch of scrubs.

Butler is obviously better on defense but offensively it's still Kobe

Kobe will be All Defensive 1st team this year. Book it.

The Bulls would win the east with current Kobe.

The Bulls will not win the east with Butler.

You do the math.

:facepalm :facepalm

if all defensive teams come off of reputation then why was Lebron only 2nd team all defense last year?

If Kobe was in Butlers spot he would be shooting way more efficiently, because he'd actually have some help and wouldn't have to shoot 22 shots per game

it isn't just about the box score, its about the two completely different offensive roles these two players have for their teams. Butler is having a great year though and is better defensively

I didn't say they came off reputation. Obviously Lebron has to earn it.

These are all NBA players though, everyone can do SOMETHING. they are going to lose a bunch of games either way, why not share the ball? its kobe's own fault he wants to hog the ball. especially at the end of the game he iso's too much with the rest of the team watching him. Although it may have something to do with their terible coach.

When a player hogs the ball they get the most shot opportunities because they always have the ball. When a player hogs the ball they get the most assist opportunities, because the player always has the ball.

I'm pretty sure Kobe has proven that no matter what situation he's in he's shooting 20+ shots per game :oldlol: And if a guy is shooting 38%, it probably has little to do with the situation and more to do with the player. Sure, he'd probably shoot better, probably like 42% and not that great at 3s which is still very inefficient.

I'd say Butler is clearly better. I wouldn't say Kobe is even a top 20 player anymore.

Kobe: 24.6 ppg on 22.1 attempts (37.7%), 5 rpg, 5 apg, 3.3 to
Butler: 21.9 ppg on 14.5 attempts (48.9%), 6 rpg, 3.3 apg, 1.6 to

Kobe takes 8 more shots to only score 3 more points and turns the ball over twice as much. Not to mention Butler is a much much better defender. No matter how hard you try to twist it, there's no rational argument to say that Kobe is better than Butler.

So far Butler has been better. Better shooting and better defense, and more of a focus on actually winning.

Kobe is better but he's at the age where he can't consistently bring it every game, similar to MJ in his wizard days. Butler primarily has that advantage, which definitely shows on the defensive side.

Kobe's still one of the top SG, butler is too but just below IMO. Butler so far is the MIP though.

Butler by a landslide.

If kobe isn't living off his reputation, he's not even good enough to be 6th man for most of teams tbh. Low efficiency choker

The one who can shoot above 40%, not brick 21 of his 22 last clutch shots, and at least try on defense.

This. If Kobe even pretended to TRY on defense, this might be a discussion. He's abysmal at the moment, despite what Kobe stans would have you believe.

This is the most ridiculous....... I can't believe hiw many people are actually choosing Bryant. Jimmy Butler is clearly better. Bryant shoots too much, hes inefficient, his.defense sucks, and the Lakers suck.

Force
12-20-2014, 03:40 PM
Butler is clearly better on both sides of the ball. I doubt he'll ever sniff Kobe's sack when it comes to career and legacy but right now there is no question he is the superior player. The Lakers look better with Kobe on the bench or when he doesn't shoot.

Just because he wouldn't have to, doesn't mean he wouldn't. Kobe would shoot 22 shots a night even if he was playing with Popovich. That's his mentality. ME FIRST, team second.

Plus it's not like Jimmy Butler is in some elite offensive system. Bulls are only 2 points per 100 possessions higher than the Lakers right now. He's thriving because he's a great player. This era of bulls teams have been offensively trash, especially without Rose

Jimmy but that's not a bad thing.....he's been ridiculous this year. #2 SG behind Harden.

Yeah both Butlers have been better than Kobe this season.

Butler's playing like a top 3 SG in the league, and a top 20 player overall. Harden is the only SG I'd definitively take over him. Jimmy and Klay are neck and neck.

Kobe..... has certainly seen better days.

Pau Gasol makes everyone around him look better. Butler is having a great year so far but I need to see more of him before I compare him to Kobe. Yes Kobe looks bad so far but Kobe can turn that around if he starts playing much smarter.

Look how good Meeks looked last year playing with Gasol..

Kobe's a top 10 player

Is that supposed to be a joke? It's a fact that the Lakers' offense performs better without him, and he's among the worst defenders in the league, and he's the definition of anti-clutch. He doesn't impact the game like a top 100 player right now, let alone top 10. :biggums:

This is so objectively and willfully stupid a thing to say that I will never again listen to a word you speak.

Right now the Lakers are 24 points/100 possessions worse when Kobe is in the game. 7+ points offensively and 17 points defensively.
