View Full Version : Will Kobe get another All-NBA selection? (NBA record 16th)

Obviously there was a lot of focus on Kobe passing Michael Jordan for 3rd alltime in scoring, but what there hasn't been much focus on is the NBA record Kobe could potentially set this year. Right now he has 15 All-NBA selections, which is tied with Kareem for 1st alltime, so if he gets one more he'll have the record.

It's arguable whether he has been a top 6 guard this year, but he could get quite a lot of votes on name alone, and there will be people who vote for him out of respect for his career as a whole.

So two questions.

#1. Would you pick him for All-NBA if you had a vote?

#2. Do you think he will get picked for All-NBA?

Personally I wouldn't vote for him, but I do think he will get selected. Harden, Westbrook, Curry and Paul have obviously been better, so the most he can hope for is a 3rd team selection. But while I would also pick Lowry, Wall, Thompson, Wade, Lillard and Butler over him, I think he'll have enough name recognition to grab one of the final spots.

No. There are tons of better and more deserving backcourt players with better team records.

Stephen Curry
James Harden
Klay Thompson
Russell Westbrook
Damian Lillard
Kyle Lowry
John Wall
Chris Paul
Jimmy Butler
Dwyane Wade
Monta Ellis
Kyrie Irving
Ty Lawson
Demar Derozan
Mike Conley

I hope the voters come to their senses and leave Kobe out of All NBA contention.

If he did it would be a travesty with so many other guys so clearly more deserving.

Since he made it last year playing 6 poor games, I'd say it means little to nothing.

He didn't make it last year. I think you are confusing it with the all star game, which is just a popularity contest.

He might make it but he certainly doesn't deserve it

Yup, not even the most biased of these Kobe trolls would be able to me an argument in his favor.

If he does the honor will lose all credibility. He shouldn't be 10th team.

In the last minute of the game this seaspm, Kobe is 1/23 with 0 assists and 9 turnovers.

Yet the myth persists. "THE MAMBA A CLUTCH GAWD." He's going to be voted into the ASG/All-NBA teams while guys like Lillard, Ellis, Thompson, and Conley have a very real possibility of being snubbed.

His clutch gene went out with his achilles. I don't blame Kobe personally, and I admire that he's continuing to bust his ass and compete every night. But it's over. I blame Dwight Howard, personally.

:oldlol: You saw the responses, not "meaningless" all star selections, all nba homie. Tied for first, surprised you? Yeah, I know, still a popularity contest....

Of course. Jason kidd and Allen Iverson did it twice in the 2000s.

I actually looked up Iverson because I figured he might have done it, but he was only under 40% one time he made an All-NBA team, at .398%, which still rounds up to 40%.

I did forget about Kidd though, and you're right, he made it twice while shooting < 40%.

Kidd may have shot below 40%, but then shooting was never why he got picked. He got picked because he was a great passer and defender.

Kobe on the other hand is a scorer above all else, and his defense certainly isn't helping this year.
