I'm not really a drummer, but I wanna know how to play this type of beat. Now it's a simple hip hop beat, but it sounds like he's purposefully speeding up and slowing down while still staying in time :biggums: Shit's nasty. Reminds me of some Questlove/J Dilla shit. I also noticed Questlove doing it on the new D'Angelo album "Black Messiah". Can't remember the name of the track though.

Any of y'all know how to do that?

Beat starts at 1:15. You can really hear the slow down thing at like 1:30-1:45

What do you mean speed up and slow down? I listen for a couple minutes starting at the time and it didn't really change.

Like the harmonies, but the bass playing gets sloppy at times and out of sync with his drumming.

Well his snare/bass is keeping the whole beat together, but he kinda staggers a bit here and there intentionally. It's how a lot of the neo-soul jazz drummers are playing these days. Questlove does it a bunch on this track:

He doesn't do it the whole time but picks little spots where it almost sounds like the record skips. It's strange it's like he's just accenting a 16th behind the beat, but it's not quite a 16th, or an 8th, or an 8th triplet :biggums: Love the way that sounds though. It's like you're drunk, but not. Some people were talking about it in the comments on the first vid i posted. I'm just trying to figure out how to do it
