I inherited a portfolio of stocks. Not much of an experience from my side considering I still have not sold or bought any stocks in the give or take three years that they have been in my possession.

I'm looking at currently investing in BHP on the ASX, due to the decreasing iron and oil prices, but funnily enough it has bounced back for some reason. I thought it was initially going to drop to the $20-$22 SP range, but no go so far. Hopefully after new years.

I've put a bit of money into a mutual fund, less than a year investment so far. Made a bit under 10% return. Nothing spectacular but it's about what I've expected, steady, low-level growth. Better than letting it do nothing in a savings account.

Thanks yeah, I'm definitely content with it. Now the only problem is do I keep putting more $ into this fund? I think it'll continue to go up, but I always get that 'I shoulda put this money into it back then when I bought lower' mentality going on

it depends, what does that mutual fund invests on? if those variables have a good forecast why not. i assume it has some high risk stuff into tho, u cant go 10% in less than a year w/o the chance of going 10% low

I wanted to buy shares with Netflix when they had that big drop back in 2012 but I always backed out, I believe they were at 90-95/share and today around 300. The portfolio includes a substantial sum with Google which I should sell and re invest in places where they could actually grow, I think they already had their peak for the foreseeable future.

I have to look in to it but I always concede from actually doing anything with the fear of not knowing what the heck I am doing.

Yeah definitely. It's the VHT health care fund, involves all kinds of health care/medical device/pharma companies. Took huge hits back during the recession but is out of its hole seemingly. And I think health care is going to keep going up in the foreseeable future unless we have another crash

um you should hire a financial planner... also no one manages a "stock portfolio" on their own as you cannot make trades without a broker even if its an online broker.

if you want to invest in the stock market look at something like betterment.com, otherwise you're basically gambling not investing, single stocks do not make you money a divested portfolio that includes real estate does. also do not ask people on a basketball forum, people are consider liars about money/investing, just look up what i said, or contact a certified financial planner and they'll tell you what i just told you. without major capital you will not make a ton of money fast in the market.

some of them go on commissions..the better ones charge you a fixed rate to come up with an investment strategy / retirement strategy which includes investing. you're not paying for news, you're paying for someone to sit down and make up a complex tax/investing/retirement strategy built around you and your situation.

i have no experience in stocks besides couple of times i bought with some inside info froma friend and it was good. but ive heard without inside u better stay away from stocks and thats what ive always done so far. like 90% ppl investing in stocks without inside info ends up loosing and going to real estate

They have a substantial investment in biotech. I would personally not invest in biotech if it is a large sum.

the only sustainable stock purchases,
"might" just be one, waiting for people to wake up

as for those who've been awake for so long
makes everything unsustainable

experimented with day trading (both stocks and options) and Lost about 100k in the stock market over a period of about 5 years

Will only invest in long term stocks nowadays

If anyone is interested I came up with a system i thought might work but I was too lazy and scared to implement it fully.

It's a large sum for me, right now as a dude in my mid-early 20s. Like if you consider large sum to be an amount of money with 4+ zeroes at the end, well, it's not a large sum then :lol.

Still kicking myself for not putting money into Tesla. I was telling people it would be the shit prior to the release of the model S and knew it was a great buy back when it was at ~$20 bucks. But I was still an undergrad then and had basically no money to my name. Now it's thoroughly too late.
