View Full Version : Trading Kobe for Amare makes too much sense!!!
One of the only trades that works straight up for these two without having to add a bunch of different parts.
Why Lakers do it: it is obvious they are in rebuilding mode. The longer they prolong the full rebuild process acting like Kobe is still the old Kobe the longer they have seasons like this. Amare gives them an expirer this year and allows them to be a major player in free agency. Amare also helps them with depth upfront and the removal of Kobe allows the team to develop more chemistry
Why Knicks do it: they desire to win now but do not have the proper pieces. Kobe can be Robin to Melos Batman giving them a pretty good duo. Kobe knows the triangle better than everyone and can be a on court teacher for them. Phil, Fisher etc... Not mentioning the change of scenery may rejuvenate his career allowing him to go after Kareem alltime record
To me this is a no brained and works in favor of both teams. What you think???

It makes too much sense for the Lakers, the Knicks on the other hand will have 2 guys who are on the other side of their prime with INSANE contracts for years to come. The Knicks need to get younger, cheaper and better. Kobe doesnt give the Knicks any of those. (end thread)

Knicks are breaking records on losses with 5 points or less, the most perfect tanking ever without trading away assets.
If Fisher is having desire to win this year, than he is the worst coach in the history of the NBA.

Lemme just leave this right here. :D http://www.insidehoops.com/forum/showthread.php?t=363297
Anyways, I'd do it just to fasten the Lakers rebuild and maybe squeeze a first rounder if Phil Jackson would be so kind.

I would have done this at the beginning of the season. Now I am less interested. Kobe + Melo, if they don't make it to the playoffs... will not lead to a top 5 pick. I wouldn't mind having Kobe for next year though. Get it done, Phil. He could teach Melo what it takes to be an alpha.

Whoa whoa whoa you guys are totally acting like fans and not recognizing that the nba is also a business. Don't let the Kobe hate blind you.
Besides Kobe being a Phil Guy, a Derek Guy, a close friend of Melo, and the best second option to Melo since Melo's been a Knick. He will be the number one Jersey seller in the league by far, matter of facr all of the Knicks merchandise will increase in sales, they will be able to up the price for ticket sales because though Kobe ain't the Kobe of old he is still a top two draw in the league.
Outside of the additional millions he will bring to the organization, he will be the best player able to get the Knicks up to speed on the triangle serving as a type of player coach. The change may also rejuvenate his career somewhat and show us glimpses of the old Kobe.
Stop letting your hate for the guy stop you from thinking rationally

Why would a better player play second fiddle to a worse player who hasn't ever won anything?

There are two issues stopping LA. Bryant is their primary money-maker and Bryant has a no-trade clause.
Regarding the financial, there has to be a segment of the Laker fan base that is all about Bryant. LA would still have money coming in but how big of a hit would this be? That's some math the Buss family doesn't want to do.
The no-trade clause is an even bigger hurdle. I doubt he waives it just for Phil Jackson's sake (he's not the coach, he's the President), the triangle (do players really care about that?) or Fisher's coaching. He might take a lesser role if meant he could win a ring but he's not taking a backseat to Melo for the sake of the 8th seed. I'm not even sure there is a person in the Lakers organization that could take on the task of convincing Bryant to waive the clause.
