Voting is quit surprising.

Marc Gasol at 3.
Durant and Westbrook so low.
Dwight Howard pretty low.
Derrick Rose barley over his teammate Butler.

Kobe to start over Harden for the west - and it isn't even close.

Also Jeremy Lin ahead of Tony Parker :lol

Not enough time to make a dent. Id wager most the votes came in a few days span of the voting opening. From that point no way you vote in Durant and Westbrook over people that played the whole season.

It's a popularity contest. He wasn't going to start over Wade, Wall, Irving, or Rose.

Durant and Westbrook lost

Anthony Davis is popular as fvck now

Why are you acting like people choose more on merit and not who they like and want to see? Most people don't give a shit. Durant/Westbrook are hilariously low. :biggums:

Good for Wall and Gasol. Glad to see them getting the appreciation they deserve. Looks like Wade will be the only starter from "team Lebron", though Bosh, Irving, and love will all probably make the team. Hope to see them all on the court at the same time at some point though.

Did you not read what I read. Gasol has been playing great ball. Durant is by no means the megastar that Kobe or Lebron is. So he's not gonna get a large amount of votes when he wasnt healthy.

Durant has been second to Kobe I think the past few years in the West. Only a few players in history are Kobe/LeBron famous. Durant is Vince Carter/Mac/AI level. Those guys have been voted in with few games played (Mac and VC) or way past prime (AI with Pistons).

Gasol with more votes than Durant now would be like Elton Brand getting more votes than Vince Carter in 2003.

Well the results speak for themselves. :confusedshrug:

Gasol deserves it more than Durant and Im happy the voters saw it that way.

No doubt if Durant was healthy he would start.

History tells otherwise, T-Mac almost made in over CP3 without really playing for the season, they basically had to rig the votes to get CP3 in the starting spot over him.

This isn't true actually. Rarely if ever do the league's best players not make the all star team. Sometime's there will be undeserving starters, but more often than not they deserve to be on the team at least as a reserve.

VC got most overall all star game votes in 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2004. Kobe got it in 2003 by only ~170,000 votes over T-Mac and VC, who were practically tied for second overall. I'd venture to say at least VC was more popular than Kobe at the time.

He's on a bad team in a small market. He has a good chance to make the team though. Gasol, Love, Bosh, and Vucevic should be the big men.

The rest of the world can vote you know...Spain has like 45 mil people and you won't see votes flying around to everyone. The Spanish voters will be specific about Gasol brothers. Let alone one is playing for a big market like Chicago and the other one is doing great with his team in the West. So more votes for them from other voters too.

Yep. I expected it. Can't lose these last couple games we did. We should be 15-15 if not for bad coaching.

VC were more popular than Kobe for 2 or 3 years until he started getting injured.

AI was more popular than Kobe from the year they got drafted until maybe 2003 when Larry Brown left sixers.

AI and VC both sold more sneakers back then and AI was presented by Reebok which no one other than AI had any kind of success with the brand so you know how popular he was back then!

They were more liked but not more popular. You must have forgot the season Kobe starts as an all star but plays behind Eddie Jones in the regular season. As a rookie, Kobe is a guest star on various television shows.

The league should create something like an "all time great" all star exception for players like Kobe who get voted in. Maybe just add a roster spot for a deserving player while still respecting the fan votes. I dunno, just an idea.

I was in high school in those years. 2001-2005. Kobe wasn't cool. Mac, Iverson and Carter were. I had those guys jerseys besides Kobe. But who was more known, Kobe easily.

Carter and freaking Jermaine O'Neal beat out Jordan in all star votes in 2003. So is Jermaine O'Neal more popular than MJ?

Just like today with Lebron, back then you were either a Kobe fan or AI fan.
