View Full Version : Popovich says Parker could sit out a while.

Parker, who missed Friday's loss to the Pelicans in New Orleans, is reportedly dealing with a hamstring strain. He has missed nine of the Spurs' last 12 games
“Every time he thinks he's back, he feels something,” Popovich said, according to the Express-News. “He felt it at the end of the Clipper game. He gave it a run (Thursday). You can’t have him doing that so we’re going to sit him. Give it time and if we err, it’s on the conservative side. It keeps coming back and that’s not good, so we’re just going to sit him out for a while.”

It was always obvious that Parker's health and play-style would lead to a quick deterioration in his effectiveness.
I think Pop should do what he does with Manu and play him very few minutes, and make sure he's ready for the Playoffs. Grade 1 hamstring strains have always been an issue for Parker, unfortunately.
Trade Parker. Then again no other team would like the amount of rest he needs.

Tony Parker is 32 years old and has STARTED in 1,136 games. The dude is a freaking work horse.
And he plays deep every year and in the offseason most years. All time leader in playoff points for a PG.

I'm not discounting his career durability, im doubting his current hamstrings. How many teams would take a player who rest in the playoff?

Good, dude needs his rest. Gotta have him fresh for the playoffs when he gets slaughtered by Westbrook again.

Kinda worried the Spurs might not get a top seed with all these guys resting an insane amount of games.

Lol, resting. I guess you don't understand the concept of injuries.

You mean when Parker lets him shoot 40% and shoot his team out of the playoffs?

No Parker and possibly more injuries to other key players throughout the reg season, the spurs are under threat of not making the playoffs.
Leonard has been dealing with a bad hand injury, Parker seems to have recurring hamstring problems.
You cannot coast this year in the west. It's way too strong now.

No, when Parker gets destroyed so badly Pop benches him for Patty Mills.
WB: 27/6/7 on 54% TS

Westbrook has double the points on better efficiency, more rebounds, more assists on better ast/to ratio, on another planet defensively...and the eye test confirms it completely and then some.

They're 7th in the West, they have to decide between sitting him and possibly missing the playoffs.

They are not guaranteed playoffs, they may miss it, 1 loss difference between them and 9th seed.

Eh this is just like the 'OKC might miss the playoffs' scare to me. Some reasoning behind it but I don't think it's that serious. For them to miss the playoffs one of Phoenix or NO has to overtake them, I just don't see it. Spurs have gone 3-7 in their last 10, Phoenix is on a 5 game winning streak, and SA is still ahead. Spurs always turn it on later into the season, when they do they'll comfortably make the playoffs. They just won't get a top seed, which might hurt.
