2- parker and leonard are badly injured.
3- no mills, splitter with no rythm
4- the big three have no desire for a championship, their goal was done last year.
5- dont forget this: 40% no playoffs. 40% 1st round exit as the 8th seed. 20% 1st round exit as the 7th seed.

Great strategy...to make the playoffs losing every regular season game. Leonard and parker still injured. There is a serious chance they finish 10

Only real problems:
-Leonard injury (no idea how serious it is considering Pop likes to hide things)
-Lack of motivation (Duncan, CoJo and Green are the only ones who care right now)
But this is what the Regular Seson is for the Spurs. A chance to prepare for a deep Playoff run. The record doesn't really matter. Golden State, Memphis or Portland (likely the top three seeds) don't scare me at all.

Anger is a great motivation. First time that the Spurs played in back to back NBA Final because they hated the Heat, and had an epic choke job in the finals, but I put my money on Harden eliminating them again in the playoffs.

No chance of it happening.
If there was one more elite Western team than yes, but you are beyond delusional if you think the Suns or Pelicans will have a better record.

Spurs gonna every single game after the all star break and finish with the 2nd seed.
IMO Spurs are the clear-cut favorites. Anything outside of a championship would be a huge chokejob on their part.
:facepalm Spoken like a man with an agenda or sh*t for brains...How can it be an epic choke job if two of their top players are battling injuries...
if everyone's healthy and they miss the playoffs that's a choke job but once the injury bug strikes your starting rotation there is no choking, just trying to survive
lastly with everyone healthy making 3 straight finals is amazing in itself, those are long seasons...

The spurs wont win 50+ wins this season. Any bet? Im 100% sure about this.
When was the last time the Spurs didn't pick up the pace after the all-star game?
Spurs probably won't win 50 games this year which is a shame since the streak will be broken, but the important thing is to make the playoffs and be healthy. So far, they've beaten MEM, HOU, LAC and POR with major players missing. The biggest fear is health and then OKC. They haven't played CHI yet and DAL (with Carlisle is always questionable). Doesn't look like CLE has it together yet should SAS meet them in the Finals.

You're always "100% sure" about things that turn out to be wrong. But anyway, regarding 50 wins and playoffs, it all depends on health. The Spurs have had a terrible run and they are on pace to win 49 games with these players out so far:
Patty Mills - Missed 31 games
Tiago Splitter - Missed 22 games
Tony Parker - Missed 11 games
Kawhi Leonard - Missed 10 games
Marco Belinelli - Missed 8 games
Tim Duncan - Missed 5 games (rest)
Manu Ginobili - Missed 5 games (rest)
If you told me we'd lose Kawhi for a third of the time, Parker for a third of the time, Tiago for 2/3 of the time, and Mills for the whole time and still be in the playoff picture and on pace to win 49 games in one of the toughest Western Conferences of all time, I would probably take it.

They are not one of the worst defensive teams in the league - they are one of the best. 8th in Defensive Rating and 11th in opponents pts/game. This is with Leonard and Splitter missing significant number of games. Duncan and Green have been holding down the fort defensively.

the spurs go as far as ginobili, kawhi and parker will carry them. duncan has been relatively healthy this season, but has been exposed BIG TIME by other bigs in his conference (his defense and offense just aren't there).
if those 3 guys are healthy, spurs may repeat again, despite duncan and the other spurs' woes.
They arent done, but Duncan Parker and Ginobli are all aging. Kawhi and Splitter arent/werent healthy.
Popovich has shown time and time again he can win without the full squad, but they will need to be healthy if they want to repeat.

Some of you cats are just DUMB.
Here are the best 7 players on the team:
FMVP came into the season without an eye. Got right for a week then injured his thumb.
2nd team All NBA 13/14 Tony Parker has been out 1/3 of the season and spent plenty of time not right.
Tiago has missed almost the entire season. Hasn't been right one game.
Patty Mills has played 20 min this season.
Timmy has missed 4 games.
Manu has missed 4 games.
Danny Green has played well.
Last year they were 8-8 when Kawhii missed the game. This year they are playing games with one of their best 7 players:
http://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/201412200DAL.html
If they are healthy they are one of the two best teams in the NBA. Yelling "they aren't very good without half their team!" doesn't really mean anything.

i've lost confidence in OKC... the coaching is just way too horrible and the players themselves are super-talented, but don't really know how to play basketball very well... accordingly they employ a poor brand of basketball that will take 1-4 more years to fix... but not this year.

No clue why they didn't fire Brooks after last season. I guess because they want to give him a shot with this core when healthy (WB hurt in 13, Ibaka in 14), but still.
KD is a free agent in 2016. At least if they fired Brooks, by the time next season comes around, the new coach would have had a full year + training camp.
I think Durant will stay in OKC, but it was dumb not to make a coaching move.

i hate to come off my gut feel that OKC has the capability to blow everyone away if they were 100% healthy, but the team still doesn't play a good brand of basketball... the only thing possibly saving them is the fact that neither does GS, HOU, or LAC.. only SA does.
btw, earlier you pm'd me the full, original defensive 3 seconds rule from previous eras - what did you think about rule 2b (http://www.insidehoops.com/forum/showthread.php?t=363929) that says defenders can stay in the lane if their man was within 3 feet of either side of the paint?... it confirms that players could camp in the lane... you never told me how you felt about that - is it remarkable, is it something you didn't know before... etc.?
Milbuck
12-29-2014, 09:00 PM
You guys are really losing faith in OKC this quickly? Durant and Westbrook have played 8 full games together this season..they lost the first one in KD's return and then went on a 7 game winning streak. Then in that 9th game KD drops 30 in one half before going down..
Scott Brooks is terrible but if they're fully healthy they are still a top 2 team in the league, if not the clear favorites imho. Adams is getting more PT and Perkins less, Morrow was a very nice pickup, Jackson/Roberson are getting better, Westbrook looks to have taken another step, so many guys on that roster have developed and gained experience in the time KD/WB were out.. I was talking to sportjames23 about it iirc..if the Goatbrook of recent weeks and the KD of last winter in his peak form ever see the court together...which is entirely possible considering Durant and Westbrook have both been out for extended periods and will not have as much season mileage on them going into the PS...it doesn't matter what Brooks does, no one is stopping them.

lost 6 out of 8? damn. So I guess we should just lock everyone in to their seeds right now, Jan-April is meaningless anyway.
worst defensive team in the league? 7th in the league in defensive rating. Wait, but what about adjustment for opposing offense strength you say??? Still 7th.

I think GS does, but with Bogut only. He really ties things together for them IMO.

I remember the zone regulations being complicated back then. There were all kinds of rules about staying above and below the FT line. The biggest benefit IMO is that the present rule is simpler to understand.
But 2b is interesting. I think it's nice to have clear language about distance permitted when players are within the 3 foot hatchmarks. I think in that regard, it confirms that defense *in the paint* was allowed to be tougher from 81-82 through 00-01 than 01-02 to the present.
Still though, I think spacing has a huge effect. The fact that there weren't as many shooters (particularly in the 80s, before the 3pt shot was adapted) made things congested.

I've been here in April every year since 2008. And judging by your Jan 14 join date, you would think you wouldn't have been, but I think everyone knows you have older alts. The saddest thing about all of this is that with the dozens of ridiculously terrible predictions this guy puts out, one day one of them is going to be right. Broken clock scenario type of thing.

lol look at this guys take. Full on retard.
Lol Spurs are not contenders. Can't wait until they get bounced in the first round. Never seen a team get such a free pass in the regular season.

The Spurs are finishing the latter half of the season strong I think. They are top ten in offense and second in defense overall. They are looking like a threat to any team at this point if they keep this up.

I hope so. Tim's a GOAT (probably top 5), but he has been a huge thorn in my favorite player's side, and I am sick of the Spurs.
No disrespect Spurs fans, they've been amazing for a long, long time, and I respect the hell out of them, but I can't stand that team and all its success at the expense of LBJ.
Yes, I'm a stan.

The Spurs set the all time record for point differential in a finals series with the same roster last year. Discounting them this year was a bit retarded to be honest, especially since they play in a system which relies on fundamentals and team ball

We all know cleveland will play against Golde State in the finals.
Spurs, at most, is losing against GS in 5 or 6 games.
But, if Spurs play Dallas in the first round...thats a 7 games series again.

1- duncan and ginobili are old as shit.
Im a Spurs fan since 1987, this is the first time in the big three era (since 2003) i finally knew it.
Its over. Manu, Tim, Tony and Pop: THANKS FOR 03,05,07,14 (and also for all the other great runs in 04,06,08,12 & 13)
Thanks for all the 50+ seasons...thanks for all.
Amen
You are either (1) the second coming of Konex or (2) the absolute worst predictor in the history of ISH/basketball/existence.
According to your prediction, the Spurs had a 0% chance of getting a 6th seed or higher. They're at #2 with one game left in the season.

This post basically ensures 3 things:
Cleveland and Golden State will not play in the Finals.
The Spurs will not lose to Golden State in 5 or 6 games.
The Spurs will not play a 7-game series against Dallas.
