Why do we celebrate it? So its a new year, so what? :confusedshrug:
I dont get it. And I'm burned out on holidays after the Halloween/Thanksgiving/Christmas trifecta in less than 2 months.

Makes more sense than any other Holiday. Party, reflect, and look ahead to something "new"
Great Holiday. You will be in bed by 9 while all of your friends will be having the time of their life drinking it up and counting down to the new year.
Somehow you find a way to complain about a really great tradition.

Agreed.
New Years is the best holiday to me. The one holiday that really transcends culture, background, tradition, religion, etc. It's a new year. It's a natural moment of self reflection, looking forward, doing something crazy, getting together and wishing everybody well.

lol it doesn't mean shit .. a new year so what .. it's just on to another day .. if you're not doing what you're supposed to be doing in your life, that's not gonna change because it's suddenly Jan 1st .. for a lot of people, that 'reflecting' leads them to feel like crap for that very reason .. it's a good excuse to party though

Yeah, it's easily my favorite. It encourages everyone to imagine their best selves and make plans to be that person. Plus it's a celebration with friends where everyone is supportive, happy, and spontaneous.

Valentines Day is stupid but it serves a purpose. It gets people out of the house and spending money during the post-holidays doldrums when people aren't spending as much. It gives the economy a little boost, which is its purpose.
New Year's is just pointless.

I thought Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's was the trifecta. I mean, Halloween isn't even a real holiday.
Halloween is a real holiday, and its the most colorful (along with Christmas) of all holidays.

new years is arguably the most powerful holiday of all... for the individual, at least.
few other holidays (other than maybe the solstices) give such a universal encouragement to each person to examine their life... see what's working, what's not... to make adjustments... not to mention feel part of the cycle of all things.
if it makes you feel better, i didn't get it either when i was a kid. but i think it grows on you as get older... as you see change working through all things in the world, lose loved ones and see new life forming around you.

No one even gets Halloween off for work or school.

Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas are clearly the trifecta. All are very colorful holidays full of pageantry, imagery and history. Also, they are perfectly spaced apart from one another and they flow together perfectly. New Years just feels like a Christmas bonus slapped on at the end.
For me at least, the "Holidays" start at Halloween.
And all you people talking about New Years being a time of reflection and all that noise, you remind me of the resolutions crowd at the gym that gives up after 3 weeks. You dont need a date on the calendar to reflect and make positive changes, you can do that anytime.

well, obviously.
but every little bit counts. and the earth going a complete cycle around the sun... another way of saying that we're passing through the 'last' of the four seasons, with the next season of growing and rebirth ahead... that's one of the most significant moments for most life on earth.

You can buy gifts and eat at any time too.
It's a community thing. Little more powerful when everyone around you is reflecting and looking forward.
It's pointless if you stay home buy yourself but being apart of a party/get together is really really fun. Plus girls really like to have sex on this holiday, which is a plus.

You said Christmas is a good holiday because money is spent but world wide far more money is spent on new years.
And Halloween has no ****ing history at all.

BUMP! :pimp:
One year later, my feelings haven't changed. New Year's is the biggest fake, fugazi holiday there is. Just an excuse to drink, like St. Patrick's Day and Cinco De Mayo.

It makes sense more than any other holiday tbh. Gives you hope. New beginning. New promotions. New career. New degrees. New relationships. New friends.

Halloween is fun for kids (adults dressing up is a little silly though). Plus, the holiday has a history.
Valentine's Day is basically women's day, and its a boost to the economy.
Its a day on the calendar. That's it.
If you look at it like that, you're bound to get depressed with life and prone to feeling unwanted. You should drink, party, get high asf. Be with friends, family. Honestly it should motivate you. Be a shell of your former self in a good way.
