The American Airlines Center crowd gasped when it saw Ellis, the leading scorer for the Dallas Mavericks this season, crumple to the court and grab his left ankle in agony late in Sunday's win over the Oklahoma City Thunder. He landed awkwardly after a drive to the basket and severely twisted the ankle that still has plates and screws in it from a 2008 surgery.

"Most guys in this league wouldn't even think about playing two nights later," Mavs coach Rick Carlisle said.

"If I don't think about it, I don't hurt," Ellis said after Tuesday's 114-87 blowout win over the Washington Wizards. "That's my mentality about it."
