Big game, because if the Raptors lose and the Hawks win, the Hawks move into first in the Eastern Conference.

It should be a good one. Raptors is the most western team in the east.

Toronto coach Dwane Casey has been impressed with how the Raptors have handled a tough road trip against Western Conference foes, knowing that it will only make his team stronger as it moves ahead.

Winning at NBA-best Golden State would be another leap forward.

Toronto looks to avoid a 10th consecutive road loss to the Warriors while preventing Golden State from recording its longest home winning streak in nearly 25 years Friday night.

The East-leading Raptors (24-8) lost at Chicago on Dec. 22, then had four days off before opening a five-game trip with wins over the*Los Angeles Clippers*and Denver on back-to-back nights.

They fell 102-97 to Portland in overtime Tuesday as*Kyle Lowry*scored a team-high 25 points. Despite his club blowing a 13-point lead, Casey came away proud of the Raptors' effort against a Blazers team which has the league's second-best record.

"I love the way we competed in a hostile environment," Casey said. "If you can compete in that environment, the way we did (Tuesday), you can compete in a lot of places."

Toronto hasn't fared well in Oakland since winning there Feb. 8, 2004, losing its last nine visits while giving up an average of 119.0 points. The Warriors (25-5) routed Philadelphia 126-86 on Tuesday for their 10th straight win at home, where they haven't won 11 in a row since a team-record 15-game run Dec. 13, 1989-Feb. 15, 1990.

With*Andrew Bogut*and*Festus Ezeli*still out with injuries, center*Marreese Speights*made his third straight start and matched his season high of 23 points against his former team.

"I didn't play him (much) a couple games and he just stayed ready," coach Steve Kerr said. "Then he got himself in the rotation and he's been in ever since. Mo's had a fantastic season scoring and doing his thing."

Speights should continue seeing quality time due to the injuries. Bogut has missed 10 games due to chonodromalacia/bone edema in his right knee, and Ezeli has been out three straight with a left ankle sprain.

Kerr isn't sure when either will be back.

"They are doing better and they are on the court moving around, but I don't really spend a lot of time asking them," Kerr said.

Casey knows Toronto needs to be aware of Speights' abilities, as well as Golden State's tough defense. The Warriors rank fifth in turnovers forced at 16.3 per game and ninth in points allowed at 98.2.

"Speights is having an unbelievable year shooting the ball," Casey said. "They're a well-rounded team offensively and they (haven't compromised) their defense. People see all the offense, but they forget how good of a defensive team they really are."

The Raptors have won eight of 10, an even more impressive run considering*DeMar DeRozan*has missed the last 16 games with a torn tendon in his groin.

DeRozan went through his first full practice Thursday since getting hurt. He doesn't expect to play against Golden State and also could sit out when Toronto completes its trip Sunday in Phoenix, though his return is coming soon.

DeRozan had 32 points to help overcome 34 from*Stephen Curry*as the Raptors ended a three-game overall skid to the Warriors with a 104-98 home victory in the most recent meeting March 2.

Curry has averaged 28.1 points in eight career games against Toronto, his best average against any opponent.

What kind of nonsense is this ?

I've seen our fan base say that these Raptors are just slightly better than the Philadelphia 76ers of this season (anr might not even be above them in the standings) when they have been losing to teams during half times. Never heard of any second coming of the 90's Bulls.

Heavincent was the only one to say that and he's not even a Raptor fan. Look back at this thread, Rap fans were either making small comments about the game or complain about how shitty Ross is and how bad Casey's rotations are. No one predicted a win tonight and I doubt anyone here is surprised that we lost to the top team in the west, especially without Derozan.

Most casual viewers and locals would assume the most out of the Raptors with their current ranking in the East.

But actual fans of the sport? The one who follow the teams in a more serious in-depth manner? We're not stupid. We see this team for what it is. A team that has a long way to go. You want to play dumb and pay attention some blokes caps raging WETHENORTH #SEEUINDAFINALS on a subreddit then well it seems you are the one who needs to pay more attention to the reality of things.

Other NBA related message boards, NBA reddit pages, people I talk to, like I saiD tenture outside these forums and you will see, I mean there's been post of tonight's game being a finals match-up, that speaks for itself how Raps fans think they are all that :confusedshrug:

A Brooklyn Nets fan made this thread... so let's leave Raptor fans on ISH out of this.

As for Raptors fans on other boards... Reddit is a casual fan base. Not much of a fan base on Pro Sports Daily.

That leaves Raptors Republic and Real GM. Since I've seen both boards and have similar posters on both boards, I draw that they are very split. I've seen the same fans say the following:

"We are just a slightly better version of the Sixers."

"We have 1 quality win all season"

"Should trade the stars while their value is high, team is going no where"

"Casey can't coach, he's done a terrible job of rotations and is benefiting of the talent"

"Should have tanked"

"We'll lose in the first round again, doesn't matter which seed"

I could go on... That doesn't sound like fans who think this team is all that. Now, are some excited ? Sure, why shouldn't they be ? Should they be miserable ?

But sorry, you will read a lot more negativity out of this fan base than you will positive.

By the way, I live in the GTA and I haven't heard any championship talk and I usually talk to Raptor fans every day. That's enough reason to dismiss anything online.

Warriors had 3 players that scored 20+ points each and another player with a triple double. Gotta be one of the very, very few times that has happened in NBA history.

Except we don't think were all that. This is still a 2nd round team ceiling. Most Rap fans I talk to acknowledge this.

What's up with this loser's mentality?

Raptors aren't a title contender, but they could make the Finals. Who are these big bad powerhouses in the East that would overwhelm them with sheer talent? Chicago maybe, but Toronto might be able catch lightning in a bottle and make a deep run.

East is so wide open it's ridiculous

Perhaps it's just my better judgment, considering the Raptors have had a poor history (loser mentality originates from ?) and haven't done anything yet for anyone to take seriously. It's still January and anything can happen down the stretch, good or bad.

But you do have a point, the East is wide open. Still, I'm not going to jump the gun. It's just my nature, I guess

Raptors definitely are a title contender. They are doing good even without Derozen.

They have the critical areas necessary for a run. They have a bulldog leader in Lowry, an explosive wing player in Derozen, the X factor in Ross, a solid and usually reliable big in Jonas and a pretty decent bench with Vasquez and Sweet Lou.

I haven't watched much of them this year (Dubs fan here), but they have the critical ability of having playmakers and finishers. I'd say their shooting has been a bit hotter than I'd expect and that may cool down as the season goes on.

I guess a lot of this comes down to their ability to play together as a team when things get tough.

Them + Cavs, Chicago, and Hawks are all basically at the same level to me. I know i know...the Cavs are awful right now but I still consider them one of the best in the East when it comes to playoffs. All it takes is 3 or 4 good weeks in April to build the necessary momentum.

The Raptors have a MASSIVE following on RealGM. Their forum game thread was 116 pages :biggums: And they are ****ing nuts. Like they're absolutely irate because they lost a game to the best team in the league in January.

I knew they had a lot of fans, but my goodness.

A few quotes:

Warriors just became one of my most hated teams, full of punks. Can't believe we didn't give them any hard fouls, would have liked to see the mole head, curry and Iggy all knocked to the court.

Soft team, lay one of them out

Bynum elbow curry if he drives

It's like a bunch of ClippersFan86's over there

Playing small to match up other team is the most stupid thing ever. It should be advantage, Casey turns it into disadvantage every time.
