View Full Version : Why didn't OKC go after Kerr this past offseason?

Or any other big name coach?
Does anyone believe that any coach would say no to coaching that team, as long as he was offered fair market value? I mean yeah, OKC ain't the most exciting place to live in but there are plenty of benefits like cost of living, not a lot of traffic, you can definitely live a relaxed life as a wealthy man in OKC.
Thing is Phil Jackson a few years back was making it obvious as hell that he'd return to coaching if it was for OKC, a few other guys have done it. Getting to coach Durant and Westbrook with a constant stream of young talent coming in seems like a dream job.
With Durant only having 2 years until he's a free agent it just seems like last offseason was the year a move had to be made so that the new coach at least gets 1 year to settle in and all of that. Now if they fire Brooks this next offseason, and the new coach doesn't win, seems like Durant would surely be gone...
Scott Brooks isnt going anywhere because Durant and Westbrook constantly vouch for him.
No excuses.

Thats just who those guys are, loyal as can be. Doesn't mean the front office shouldn't fire Brooks and move on. All of the guys in Golden State loved Mark Jackson but it was obvious they weren't going to contend with him coaching.
Them showing public support also doesn't give off any indication of how they actually feel. Westbrook's brother was going off on twitter last year during the playoffs about Brooks needing to get fired.

They vouch for them because Scott Brooks lets Westbrick chuck as much as he wants.

Well OKC has been contending for years now. He's not Mark Jackson where he alienates himself from the front office. Presti likes him. Durant and Westbrook like him.
He's there to stay.

I don't see why star players vouching for their coach is a big deal. As a player you're supposed to support and respect your coach, regardless of how you truly feel.
Not every star is a bitch like LeBron, Melo, and those guys.

why not call kobe a bitch as he has done so with pretty much every coach including phil jackson? i know you were a lakers/kobe fan and moved on to KD when it was clear kobe was not going to give lebron any competition.

yeah.
you could tell that he had every intention to be popovich 2.0 and he overall seems like a very intelligent person.

no one other than people who knew kerr had any idea how good he was. stop writing bs. post me a link to your comment where you praised him when knicks were looking to sign him.
I can't blame thunder for not going for him when he is unproven. it made sense for warriors or any other team that didn't make a deep playoff run with their current coach but not for thunder. OKC did fck up with that harden trade though.

lol they asked the guy what offense he was gonna have GS run and his answer was something like "a little bit of the princeton, a little bit of the triangle, etc"
you ask scott brooks that shit and he'd say something like "we're going to run our offense through durant and westbrook and tell those guys to stay aggressive"

that's because he just rolls the ball out there for them and let's them do whatever they want.
they'll learn eventually though.

but i must be honest, it's amazing how just two games can restore your faith.
if you look at durant's game this year, his shot allocation profile is different, more mature - he plays MOSTLY off-ball.... and he posts up and SEEKS turnarounds and pull-ups as a standard - this is important, because those are the shots that playoff defenses can't stop - those are the shots that truly dominant playoff performances invariably include a lot of.
his shot profile last year was much more off-the-dribble and stand-still 3's - the stuff playoff defenses CAN clamp down on when they have to... i have always believed that durant's greatness (and westbrook's) can overcome brooks' incompetence, IF durant plays the right way (like dirk with the aforementioned shot profile, but more athletic).

GSW owners also enabled Kerr to offer more lucrative gigs to assistance coaches- they gaves bigger contracts to guys like Gentry and Ron Adams, two highly respected coaches, to lure them away from the Clippers and Bulls. Kerr intended to build a great staff and Lacob gave him carte blanche to hire whomever he wanted. You'd know better than me, but I honestly doubt OKC's owners would have had the same attitude towards building out a pricey staff.
Scott Brooks is holding them back. You cant just run YMCA offense in the NBA. It is sad.

I thought OKC fans had resigned to the fact that Brooks wasn't going anywhere by now?

Clay Bennett.
Serious.
Scott Brooks is signed through the 2016-2017 season on a contract that has him making 4.5 million per season.
The Golden State Warriors signed Steve Kerr to a 25 million dollar contract paying him 5 million per season.
Clay Bennett didn't want to fire Brooks and hire Kerr, because he would go from paying 4.5 million in salary to 9.5 million in salary (he would still have to pay Brooks for the remainder of his contract).
Clay Bennett is way too cheap to let something like winning get in the way of saving money.
