The starting lineups should really look like this:
East:
C: Noah
PF: Pau Gasol
SF: LeBron
SG: Butler
PG: Lowry
West:
C: Randolph
PF: Aldridge
SF: Durant
SG: Harden
PG: Westbrook
Those are the players that actually deserve it.

Why do people say "popularity contest" like it's a bad thing?
Isn't that the very foundation of an ALL-STAR game?

It shouldn't be. Fans will vote for Rose, Kobe, Carmelo Anthony, Dwight Howard, Wade. Do any of them deserve it?
I was talking to my cousin about this the other day. He came up with a good idea. The rosters should be picked by people in the league and the fans should decide the starting lineups.

I was going by numbers and what the players are putting up. Gasol should be a reserve for sure. But Anthony Randolph and LaMarcus Aldridge are putting up better numbers overall.
Picking for the West was kind of tough. There are a lot of players who deserve it. You could put Gasol at C instead of Randolph and move Randolph to the 4. But Aldridge deserves it. Same with Westbrook/Curry. Curry has been great and definitely deserves a spot as a reserve but Westbrook should be the starter.

Why? Makes no sense. Curry has played way more games and is the best player on the best team in the league.
Not to mention he outplayed Westbrook in both games this season.

That wouldn't change much of anything since 95% of the time the same players would be starting. If the fans are voting for the starters it's still a popularity contest.

I don't really see any argument for Westbrook over Curry this season.
Westbrook - 27/6/7/2 on 44/82% with 3.7 TO's and .9 3PGM.
Curry ------- 23/5/8/2 on 49/92% with 3.2 TO's and 2.9 3PGM.
Curry's team has the best record in the NBA. Westbrook's team is sub .500 and the #10 seed in the West. In both matchups this year Curry outplayed Westbrook H2H.

I'd like to hear your reasoning behind that. Westbrook is leading a sub 500 team right now. Curry is leading us to the best record in the league. And as Heavincent noted, he's outplayed Westbrook in the head to heads.

Yeah the foundation of a STAR is fame. Therefore, the most deserving are those who are most famous. And the one worthy of entering ALL STAR are those the fans want to see the most.

I agree with these picks, Millsap should be a starter over Noah.
Maybe Bran over Butler, depends how much time he misses.

He's a bigger name and pushed harder by the media than is Ellis; thats the only difference.
Monta Ellis should start over Harden

The leading vote getter in the NHL is a relatively unknown 20 year old named Zemgus Girgensons. He beat out every household name in votes due to the outstanding amount of support he received in his native country of Latvia. The kid has no business being in the all star game let alone starting.
We need to start a Timofey Mozgov movement next year...

Welcome to the NBA's bla bla bla all star game...
And now your starting center for the west, weighting 225 pounds standing at 6 11, playing for your beloved Lokomotiv-Kuban in Russia - Anthony Randolph.
