SVG trying to bring that "Magic" to Detroit.
Unless Monroe can develop a 3-point shot, I see him gone after this season.

while I am very happy he's off the pistons (and dont really have a problem with how they did it), I do think he will be mostly positive for the rockets.

It's a pretty small sample size but given how bad the Pistons record was and how strong Houston's was it is pretty eye opening.

Don't worry, Westbrook and Durant will soon split. They're basically Garnett and Marbury so they won't last long.

Where does this run rank amongst teams that were as bad as the Pistons were prior? I know there has to be one of those strange statistical comparisons out there, like "longest active winning streak by team with a red, white, and blue color scheme that started 5-23 before releasing their leading shot taker before Christmas."

I get Smith was bad, but there is no way that both those records are a direct cause of Smith's arrival and departure. Are they? :oldlol:
Pistons are obviously better without him though, a lot better.

That is the stat right there. They beat it.
Probably gonna hold up as long as Wilt's 100 points. Longer maybe.

Pistons are obviously better without him though, a lot better. One of the semi-secret details being overlooked is the return of Jodie Meeks, which came just a few games before Smith's release.
That said, whatever happens to the Pistons from here on out, I believe Josh Smith was one of the most detrimental players to a team I've seen in my NBA viewing experience.
One of the biggest issues was his high volume of opportunity. He was one of Detroit's highest paid players (maybe the highest) and Van Gundy wanted to give things a shot. So he played Smith - he played him a lot. Subsequently, Smith shot. Smith shot a lot.
I have the statistic memorized by now: Smith had taken 68 more shots than anyone else on the team. Yet, he was hitting 38% from the field, 24% from the arc, and 48% from the free throw line. I can't think of the right analogy for comparison, for I do not want to disrespect any other players. There's been many high scoring players who shot near 40%, but take someone like, say, Allen Iverson, and imagine him not only shooting close to 35%, but hitting way less than half his free throws, while getting to the line with high frequency.
Not to pile on, but one of Smith's actually kind of legit skills - rebounding - was nullified immediately on many occasions because he insisted on leading the break himself. Sometimes he'd meander into an alley-oop pass, most other times it'd slow a real transition opportunity by not outletting to a guard; or he'd turn the ball over by threading a needle.
Then every now and again he'd have a good statistical game to make everyone think twice about how bad they thought he was.

In Houston case it have been more or less the playing time and rotation to blame the Rockets.
Houston have been hit or miss since Howard return it doesn't look like he all that healthy, he look good some game other slow and not explosive.
Smith in Houston, he is been good from the bench, Houston is 2-1 with him coming from the bench and just collapse late vs Chicago when they were in command.
The main problem is rotation, Dmo have been great download and have taken the ball out of Howard hand who's been hit and miss in the low post, and smith is more effective and looks more comfortable in the second unit, but there have been a lot of miscommunication offensively too many dumb turn over and confusion on the offensive end, as well as in the defensive end, miss assignment, bad rotation, and a lot of confusion at times.
The problem is Houston have little day off this month and practice time is what they need for these team to gel.
Detroit case I don't watch them often but yes Smith out of the rotation is probably the main reason, but I don't know if is a long term solution for Detroit or they will just fall back to being bad.
Now Smith is not starting material at all.

Beating the Spurs on the road. No easy task. I know everybody is talking about Smith being a cancer. Which he was. My only concern is the dead money from cutting him. Drummond and Monroe will both command big deals. Hopefully the price of Monroe isn't over $10 a season. Drummond will get the max minideal. I know I'm over thinking things but the ocd in me thinks $30 mil of dead cap has to have some type of effect that will hurt them later on. But I am enjoying the youngsters getting the playing time left behind by Smoove.

the stretch provision means that it will basically be MLE money for the next 5 years. and its offset by any contract he gets over these coming two years above the vet min.

4 for 11 vs the spurs and 3 for 11 tonightHe's averaged close to 14 off the bench otherwise. The removal of Josh Smith has been huge, but Meeks has been important as well. Even if he's not hitting, just having someone running off screens, using movement to get into the lane, and making the right passes in those situations has been invaluable. That aspect of the game was almost completely absent before his arrival.
