Suns gave up Minny's 2015 1st, protected to 12 in next 2 years & then turns into two seconds, for Brandan Wright. For those wondering...

The Suns are taking Wright into salary cap space -- not an exception.

Good! Make it harder for Spurs and OKC to make the playoffs.

Brandon Wright on the Suns is pretty crazy they finally got a guy who can finish around the rim on a regular basis.

Nice deal for Suns. Good chance given protection they just got Wright for a 2nd. Should fit well next to Kieff. Bad news for Plumlee.

I like Wright, this is a good pickup. Celts are just rebuilding

I don't mind this deal but there's a definite limit to the value of constantly acquiring middle and late first round picks. They're what the roster is made of and generally become "ok" players. The Celtics don't have any potential superstars right now and frankly I have no prediction as to when they'll ever have a good team again. I don't think the team with the #1 pick (assuming that isn't the Cs) is going to give up the rights to Okafor for some package of picks in the 15-30 range randomly stretched out from now until 2020. Nor will free agents badly want to join a team with nothing but cap space and average young players. The Cs need someone they can point to as a cornerstone to get the ball rolling.

Interesting post. I've actually never thought of it that way.

I feel you, but wright wasn't going to move the needle in any imaginable way.
And he's an expiring contract.

Collecting tons of picks, even if late-ish, is fine. Use two to trade up a few spots, then that one with another one to trade up further. You could get pretty high that way.

So Cleveland could have had Wright and kept a draft pick.

It's going to end up being 2 second rounders most likely.

2 seconds can typically be traded for a late first from a team looking to clear cap space.

Happens every year.

The Suns get even more crowded or maybe Miles get traded. Not bad if Minnesota stays near the bottom in '16 and '17.

Top 12 protected. No way the wolves are falling out of the top 12, so it is delayed till next year. They'll probably be in the loterry next year too, so it will turn into 2 seconds (probably 2016 and '17)

So less like a first, and more like two future 2nds in a few years.

R.I.P.

Of course just send all talent from the East to the West. Wright. Then probably Green. Who next?

It is frustrating but one positive is flexibility. Most terrible teams don't have the potential to collect young players, have cap room, and future assets. Doesn't really matter if the "plan" isn't executed
