I really like Conleys lateral movements as a point guard.

He just isnt physically imposing at that position comparing with the rest of the match ups on that team.

If Hubie Brown didnt feel like he was too old for coaching.
They could make an exciting playoff teams who could be known for close games.

This would give Memphis a ton of wing guys- Allen, Green, Lee, Carter, QP. I'm guessing they're thinking Green will spot some minutes as a PF every night? Grizz basically maxing out their roster for a title run. Wonder what the protections are on this pick.

One of the rotation wings they are trying to move in a 3 way trade.

Why?

SwishSquared

Why?
We don't know the protection(s) on the first they're including in the Jeff Green trade, but they could/likely will lose two first round picks in the coming years. I'm guessing that's what they're referring to.

Plus, Z-Bo's new deal kicks in next season, Gasol's likely getting a max this summer at age 30, and Koufos may leave this offseason. They have lots of wings now and a good PG situation, but they're using up most of their available assets apart from trading away useful rotation players. Also doesn't the Memphis owner like to keep the team under the tax? Those cheap players drafted late in first round are good value.

EDIT:
Do the Grizz actually need to get a third team involved or is this a case of them wanting to get rid of a rotation wing in order to save $? Including Prince, they only have 14 guys on the roster according to nba.com. They'd even have space for a pickup later this year. Does anybody know if any of their wings is mad about a lack of mins? I heard grumblings that Koufos would like a bigger role, but he's the only one that I can remember.

JimmyMcAdocious
01-09-2015, 09:14 PM
Like the risk for Memphis. They have been right on the edge for a few years now with their atrocious wing rotation. Sometimes Green looks like the best player in the world. I mean he's gone up h2h with LeBron, both playing at a high level, and outplayed him. Of course other times he disappears. I wonder if the new situation in Memphis can help him harness some of the ability and become more consistent.

Even if he's the same ol' Jeff Green, the main rotation in Memphis can win you games in the playoffs and have proven so. They mainly need Jeff Green to get them over the hump, not necessarily become Superman.

Except now he has way more 1st rounders than Hinkie haha, but 76ers probably have the most 2nd rounders going forward. BOS also may not have a franchise cornerstone the way Philly does (potentially Embiid, we'll see), but I think Ainge will get aggressive in packaging picks going forward.

The Memphis Grizzlies, on the brink of strengthening themselves for a deep run into the Western Conference playoffs, are working to finalize a three-team deal to acquire Boston Celtics forward Jeff Green, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

Memphis, Boston and New Orleans are in the advanced stages of a deal framework that would send the Grizzlies' Tayshaun Prince, New Orleans' John Salmons and a future Memphis first-round pick to the Celtics, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

Memphis would send forward Quincy Pondexter to the Pelicans and New Orleans would send Russ Smith to the Grizzlies in the proposed deal, sources said.

Boston and Memphis believe they can complete the Green trade without New Orleans, but the Grizzlies want to move Pondexter before Green and his $9.2 million salary joins Memphis, sources said. Memphis is still discussing other deals for Pondexter around the NBA, but the focus on Friday night had been completing the trade with New Orleans, sources told Yahoo.

Unless Pondexter requested to be traded, why exactly are they moving him other than to save some money? Has he not played well after recovering from past injuries?

They don't really need him with Green, too many wings. Too expensive for a player who literally won't play at all.

Boston Get

Austin Rivers (from New Orleans)
1st Rounder (from Memphis)

New Orleans Get
Quincy Pondexter (from Memphis)
2nd Rounder (from Memphis)

Boston aren't going to keep Rivers though and will flip him ASAP, likely to the Clippers and Prince is a chance to be bought out too. Memphis got New Orleans involved and sent Pondexter out for Smith because Memphis are right at the tax line and Green makes about $1.5 million more than Prince, so sending out Pondexter's $3.1 million salary allows them to absorb the extra salary of Green and $500K salary of Smith and still gives them a bit of breathing room before they hit the tax line. Pelicans traded Rivers because they'd already declined his option for next year and had no interest in keeping him and basically took the first offer they got on the table. Pelicans already had Pondexter once in 2011 and traded him to Memphis for Greivis V

And just a general question, but how is Austin Rivers only worth a second rounder and small change expirer? I feel like he has to be a little more valuable than that based on potential. Justice Winslow is my favorite player in this draft class. He can be a James Harden type player on offense, but he actually plays defense. So, I'm just going to take a moment and lay out Ainge's plan before it happens.

Draft Justice Winslow. Trade 21 & Olynyk for draft rights to Willie Cauley-Stein, who will be a Tyson Chandler defense and rebounding big in the NBA. Sign Lamarcus Aldridge to the max.

And just a general question, but how is Austin Rivers only worth a second rounder and small change expirer? I feel like he has to be a little more valuable than that based on potential. But seeing as how the Celtics already got a first rounder from Memphis I could understand settling for a second I guess.

Rivers is worth next to nothing. Not an elite athlete. Too skinny. Not a great shooter. Poor off-hand. Too much scoring attitude vs. Distributing.

So Austin Rivers has a team option for next season for 3.1m. I'm guessing this is a big reason why dad wants to trade for his son. Daddy wants to set his son up. No team besides the Clippers would pick that team option up.

New Orleans already declined his team option in October.

What a stupid trade by the Grizzlies. They put themselves in the driver's seat out west after sticking together, and now they have thrown it all away. Prince, even in his decline, is a big part of their defensive identity. Green's just another hole for oppositions to exploit (along with Z-Bo)

His off hand dribbling is just despicable.

Cringe worthy.

They've maxed out this core in the playoffs and would likely lose to SA or OKC again. The problem isnt defensive they do a fine job with either TA or Lee at the wings. Its their inability to score enough points and hopefully Green solves that.

Too many times the grizz grind the whole game only for Durant or Manu hit a big three during crunchtime.
