View Full Version : Why isn't Lillard more talked in the MVP race?

Damian Lillard is having career highs in almost every single category while improving on defense and helping Portland to the 3rd best record in the league.
Just this should be enough, but too compensate even more he's currently the clutchest player in the League.

1. Cause LMA is the first option

2. He plays in Portland

3. People think you can't improve if you stayed 4 years at College :hammerhead:

Raw stats aren't high enough...

22/5/6 on 45/38 is solid, but he'd have to average at least like 25 PPG to be in the talks

Media just takes one or two guys and rides them hard until the end.

This year it seems to be Curry and Harden.

Happened last year with Aldridge having amazing numbers and getting no love.

Portland is getting to that awkward stage where you don't know who the best player on the team is, so MVP talks aren't really realistic.

I don't really think that Portland have a first option now, i think they are 1A and 1B currently.

Is a guy like Marc Gasol or Jimmy Butler first option? I don't think that and i see them being talked more than Lillard currently.

I think Curry and Harden are one step ahead right now of everyone, but the 3rd place is a really mix up.

LA is the first option for the first 3 qts, Lillard is first option in the 4th

He's not even the best player on his own team.

Kemba is the clutchest player in the league

19/11 on 51/44/92 shooting, leading the #1 offense and a top 10 offense all time..

Same issue the Clippers have with CP3 and Blake. Alrdridge and Lillard are always going to split the credit.

Lillard has mad heart and is clutch as fukk though. My favorite non-Warriors player... by a long shot.

I believe Aldridge is top ten if they vote today. Damian Lillard though? He's saved Portland about 8 games this year. That is just insane and really just a perfect reason to consider him for MVP. Isn't that the definition right there? A guy that is so valuable he gets you wins you weren't going to get without him.

People don't even believe that Lillard is a "Top5 PG", which, well... I believe is crap. But when this is a popular opinion of people around the league, MVP nods is quite a bit harder to achieve.

I think he's as good as Curry who's leading the NBA MVP Race.

Then why Millsap is in the MVP talks? Or Marc Gasol?

agree. dame is leading his team to one of the best records out west (haven't checked the updated standings), and having a monster statistical season to boot.

aside from stephen curry, the best pointguard in the game (and yet STILL underrated).

Lillard's season is starting to shape up a lot like MVP Rose. They have a very similar style, but Rose didn't have anyone as good as LMA next to him. His late game clutch sense is off the charts. If Blazers are within 12 points going to the 4th quarter, you have to tune in to their games.

Exactly. Those are amazing stats for your PG.
