Cleveland Cavaliers starting power forward Kevin Love is postponing the execution of a long-term deal with his current club, the Cavaliers with the 2016 free agency in mind. The year 2016 is the projected time when the new television deal will kick in and in effect, pull up the salary cap.

"Love is unlikely to sign long term this summer because of the salary cap. He is expected to opt out of his current contract at the end of the season for cap purposes, but he might only sign a one-year deal to line up for what is expected to be a significant cap spike in the summer of 2016."

He's going to pull a LeBron and sign for 2 years at his max, with a player option. Once cap explodes to like $90M for 2016-2017, he'll re-up on a longer term deal. That's all that article, and many others, have reported.

Sure, it gives him more opportunities to leave, but it's been said many times that last summer he established that he'd be there for the long haul.

That's funny about the whole opting out thing because just 5 minutes ago:

http://www.cleveland.com/cavs/index.ssf/2015/01/cleveland_cavaliers_forward_ke_1.html
Kevin Love says he doesn't plan to opt out of Cleveland Cavaliers contract at end of this season

"I think that we will figure it out here, so I don't plan on opting out or any of that," Love told NEOMG. "I plan on being here. As far as leaving my options open, I mean sure, it's always there. At the end of the day, it's always good to have something but no, I plan on being here."

I'm more inclined to believe love's words over rumors if we're talking about him opting out. The longterm extenstion situation however is anyone's guess.

Dude is earning my respect a bit, screwing over Cleveland two times like that :oldlol:

Guess he was happy with 2 rings and saw the potential to screw Cleveland over and couldn't pass it up. Wiggins looking real good recently too

I'd take Love's words when asked direct questions about leaving with a grain of sand. Dude bullshitted to the press in Minnesota constantly but behind closed doors was DEMANDING to be traded.

There are a number of reports coming out today that confirm the original report, so I think they are reliable enough.

Isnt going to stop him from signing a 1 year extension with the Cavs though will it? He's obviously prioritized his cheque book at this stage, but who can really blame him.

No, it won't. Doesn't mean he won't opt out and go elsewhere either, but right now I think the most likely option is that he stays in Cleveland for another year before bolting to NY, LA, or somewhere similar in 2016.

That's because he thought he was joining a dynasty last summer.

What about NBC or Yahoo? This news has been all over the grapevine today, bruh.

Have to wonder if it's a coincidence that this comes out after Blatt said straight up that Love isn't a max player

Lakers will be free and clear space wise in 2016 with Kobe's deal done. Only currently have Nick Young and Julius Randles option on the books. Knicks might have room if they don't blow all their capspace this offseason.

CLE will trade Kyrie before it loses out on Love, unless there's a better big for their liking. Jalen Rose called it last summer- Bledsoe would end up in CLE (via a Kyrie trade) before Love walks.

"Like I said, if we aren't better this year, we're gonna re-unite again and do some bigger and better things, alright?" -Lebron James

I wouldn't sign a long term contract either Kevin.

Ding ding ding. He stands to make a couple million extra if he holds out until 2016. Same with Lebron.

But if Kevin left i wouldn't even be pissed. I wasn't a fan of his game before and I'm not a fan of his game now.

It's amazing how many times I find myself agreeing with your posts wholeheartedly. Was a huge Delonte fan as well.

Good for the Cavs. I have said many times that Kevin Love, though he put up stats, is not a game changer and is one of the worst defensive bigs in the league, he is useless unless he is paired with Zo or Mutombo on defense.

I don't know why they didn't just trust in Tristan as the starting PF and keep Wiggins.

Kyrie, Delly
Wiggins, Waiters
Bran, Marion, Miller
Tristan, Bennett
Mozgov, Varejao (before his injury)

would be a better team IMO, with much more sustainability moving forward

This is not a surprise but it's still funny. Let's hope for a career ending injury for Love when he signs that one year deal.

Hahahahahaha....they traded Andrew Wiggins for Kevin Love.....hahahahahahaha.

I bet every Cavs fan wishes that Wiggins never got traded. Cleveland traded a potential superstar for a 1, or maybe 2 year rental.

For heavens sake people, check the source. The articles quotes from a Ohio.com article that assumes that Kevin Love is unlikely to sign a long term contract.

Love is unlikely to sign long term this summer because of the salary cap. He is expected to opt out of his current contract at the end of the season for cap purposes, but he might only sign a one-year deal to line up for what is expected to be a significant cap spike in the summer of 2016.

Love has said all the right things about re-signing with the Cavs this summer and the Cavs continue to insist he’s here long term. Executives around the league, however, continue to believe Love could leave Cleveland at the end of the season. We’ll see. There is still a long way to go.

Nothing reliable, let alone definitive. Anyone here can type up the same claim.

Think we all saw this coming. He plays in probably the shittiest city in america and only came because of the hoax that "LeBald makes his teammates better" and "LeBald on any team is an instant contender". Now that he's seen with his own eyes that its all bullshit, he's coming to LA:rockon:
