Lebron was hitting his layups as well, dunking was never a problem. Hopefully he's back all the way. Gonna be a long season.

This isn't just the worst paint & at-rim defense I've ever seen - it's the worst paint and at-rim defense POSSIBLE.. weakest era ever bar none.

should be no surprise that the best player in the weakest era is soft as a grape.

Awesome dunk from Bron. That needed rest from his injuries really seemed to help the pep in his step.

Looked pretty explosive, and fluid. "Rest" in Miami certainly did his body good. He was looking so old there for awhile. That behind the back dribble split of the double was even more impressive. Skill. But his bunnies on that dunk was there. His head got up there. Good for him, and better for the league.

You can still see that still isn't 100 percent, I don't think he'll ever get back but he might still be very effective.

Still looks like has some level of discomfort whilst playing.

one game, one gif?

are you serious?

i posted a similar GIF a few nights ago of klay thompson attacking a wide open paint. http://www.insidehoops.com/forum/showpost.php?p=10893100&postcount=8

the paint is wide open as a standard in today's game because of 3-point shooting/spacing and the 3 seconds rule that forces defenders to stay within armslength of their man while in the paint.

I think the cavs can still win 50-52 games this season, but they are gonna be a dangerous team in the playoffs just like the (47-35) Rockets in the 1995 NBA playoffs.

Who needs GIFs - those are only needed to visually demonstrate how the game has changed to people who aren't aware of what they are watching, and aren't aware of how the game was altered by spacing and rule changes.

For example, in the GIF below, look specifically at horace grant under the rim - the rules in previous eras didn't require horace to stay within armslength (http://www.nba.com/nba101/misunderstood_0708.html) of his man, so he decides to stop under the rim and camp in the paint, instead of following his man toni kukocs out to the 3-point line in the far corner... as a result, horace is there waiting on MJ, and actually gets there AHEAD of time:

otoh, look specifically at harrison barnes near the far corner below - durant must stay within armslength (http://www.nba.com/nba101/misunderstood_0708.html) of barnes to remain in the paint - so durant goes towards the edge of the paint to stay within "armslength", and consequently, he's late coming over.

because he thought that he could turn playoffs virgins like Irving and Love into winners. Season is not yet over doe. Blatt will be fired at the end of this month.

Why would you leave the cohesiveness of the Heat for this?
Personal Brand and Legacy.

Did you see how after he announced his decision, from July forward he's been completely loved again? It was a smart move business wise, and personally.

People weren't taking his Miami Heat rings as seriously weight wise as they would've had he won them in Cleveland. He had a stacked team, in a poor conference. On top of that it wasn't even paying off totally. 2 rings in 4 attempts? Everyone hated him outside of Miami. The entire country.

He got the monkey off his back, gets the winner tag forever more, head back to his home to win fans back. Get a positive perception again, a chance to restore his legacy, and join a team with young talent on the up swing. He'll get a statue in Cleveland even if he doesn't win a ring. Mind you with a team this young there is no self induced pressure.

I don't think it's a guarantee LeBron on this year's Heat is any better than last year. Certainly not long term. Bosh was under performing, Wade was aging quick, and was oft injured. Unless James stayed and Gasol went there as he planned.

Lebron and the Cavs were showing off after every made basket. AND LOST. :hammerhead:

This is vintage LeBron athletically.

Amazing acceleration at roughly 260 lbs. Even impressive specimens like Barkley & Malone didn't quite seem that fast.

To be fair those days are long over, he can still beat his man with both speed and strength and still excels in transition. Just won't have many highlight plays.

Plus he's a much better shooter now to compensate for this decline.

He was straight up ridiculous in 2009. No one is saying he is ever going to get even close to back to that.

That said, he looked very good last night, hope he can keep it up.

and that's all that needs to be said...coming off of a 2-week rest/injury period with one of his better games for the year is a good sign. much needed if this is the outcome going forward for his play, the wins will follow-suit

I agree with you to quite an extent as to how three point shooting, defensive three seconds, and other changes have made it much easier to attack the paint and made it less congested. However, this particular gif is a relatively poor example because it came off an inbound play with 10 seconds left in third. Blatt most likely drew up a play to draw every defender away from the rim with spot up three pointers. It was not very alert defense on the Suns' part, but it's really not typical half court action, since this was a planned inbound play. Certainly, there was no contest in the paint to Lebron's dunk, but that was more a result of coaching strategy in pulling away the defenders, rather than an example of the systematic failure of today's defensive schemes. There are much better examples to show your point than this one.

Watching some Muresan highlights. This is how you take 7'7 footer out of the paint (lol he has his height as a jersey number)

http://puu.sh/evyUp/6e0694416e.jpg

Imagine if LeBron could play in this era. Paint looked like this 90% of the time in the '90s. Just open lanes for everyone. Today you can at least choose whether to leave the 3 point line open or not. Back then you simply had to guard it or it would have been illegal defense.

And this is 1996 when the defense was already much better than 5 years before.

37 ppg on 60% for LeBron imho

I'm still convinced the reason he was so much less athletic than last year was because of those back and knee strains.

that's not vintage Lebron. Vintage Lebron takes off almost from the free throw line dunking on ppl. Haven't seen that since 2010. He just plays a lot smarter now to help his body last longer.
