I don't get it, with a similar performance in Game 7 in the Finals, he got the MVP. How can it be a bad thing? This is vintage Kobe right here, you best remember these games, you don't know when you'll get to see such a performance ever again, from anyone.

he actually didn't play that bad. He made a ton of terrific passes, set up guys with great plays, but they missed shots like crazy tonight and he shot really poorly. It's not like they were bad shots, lots of open, good looks that he just missed, as did the rest of the team. one of those games that happen every once in a while that you just have to move past.

He just doesn't have the ability to get to the rim anymore. Eveything is from the perimeter, so when his shots aren't falling it gets ugly. I don't know why he's not posting up more.

Yea, I co-sign sitting Kobe every other game is actually a bad idea for a guy whose game is predicated on shooting volume amount of jumpers. He can't get to the rim off the dribble like he was doing in 2013 to compensate.

It honestly looks like Kobe could retire at this point. He had a quarter of a season in his tank to pass MJ, and that's about it. His numbers dipping by the second. Didn't Kobe say he didn't want to be a guy scoring less than 20 ppg?

P.S. LMAO @ all the Kobe stans like YMF who critiqued MJ's 2002 season, even though he was 3x years older in a more difficult defensive league than Kobe is now.

Also, as we said, the vastly more difficult scoring climate. Peak era for SG players.

Prime Kobe, T-Mac, Iverson, V. Carter, Ray Allen, Pierce, etc. Who does Kobe even have to get up for at this stage of the game? Harden? Klay Thompson?

All those skills and footwork should theoretically have him shooting better than 37%fg, shouldn't they? Or is he just that bad a shooter that even with his elite footwork which get him good looks, he shoots like a blind man?

No, because he's not getting easy baskets at the rim to pad percentages.

He's forced to shoot exclusively, with meager elevation at old age, jumpers from mid-range while being contested. That takes it's toll on your body, productivity, and especially efficiency. Doesn't mean he isn't elite skilled, or have great footwork dude.

C'mon that's disingenuous. Kobe is one of the most skilled players ever.

That 5% efficiency difference on equal volume between 36 year old Kobe and 39 year old Jordan ... is the same as at their peaks. Kobe a 28 ppg on 45% guy and Jordan a 32 ppg on 50% guy.

The difference in efficiency isn't skill related, they're near equal, that's a superior body and athleticism allowing to find easier baskets.

Yes but that poster specifically has stated multiple times that in his opinion Kobe is the most skilled player of all time, which means Kobe is more skilled than Jordan. If that's the case, then Jordan being superior athletically doesn't mean much since Kobe's greater skill should offset that gap on athleticism and then some.

If you're old and you still have some athleticism left, you're still gonna be a great player like Jordan in 97-98

Kobe has absolutely no athleticism left, only his flexibility. He had two major surgeries man, let it go.

Kobe game is based on a mixture skill and athleticism... he hasn't been a top 5 player in the league since 2010 when he was 31 i.e when players start losing their athleticism.

His longevity isn't anything to write home about, he became a top 10 player in around 2001, and maintained it until 2010. So a 9 year stretch, possibly excluding a year or two. After that he has just been an inefficient shot jacker, who plays zero defence.

Lebron has already surpassed that, been a top ten player since 2004.

What Kobe is doing this year is straight up embarrassing considering the money he is getting paid.

Kobe's prime lasted 13 years.

Sorry but shooting 43% and 30 percent from 3 point land, with zero defence doesn't make you a top 5 player.

Where did I mention Lebron being the best player? (even though he has since 2009) Lebron has been a top 5 player in the league for 10 years now... Thats longevity. I don't care about Kobe coming into the league as a role player, or him being a cancer in the last 3 years of his career.

Kobe had 9 years as a top 10 player, and thats being generous. The idea of him having GOAT longevity must be from the same guy who says he is GOAT in the clutch.

Stop. Besides a few arguables, last year included, Bron has been the best player in the game since 2009. No arguments for anyone else in 2012, and 2013. No one had been definitively that uncontested best since Shaq. Last year's playoffs showed he was still better than Durant.

How people can still defend this type of game.

Missing shots is part of basketball (Danny Green seems like he hasn't hit a shot in weeks). But missing bad shots isn't.

Kobe's game this year, aside from a nice week-long stretch, is missing a lot of bad shots.

He's terrible. He seriously needs to retire if he isn't willing to change his game for the long haul (i.e. not just a week when he feels like getting some triple doubles).

There is a difference between most skilled and most fluid and aesthetically pleasing to the eye.

Sure, Kobe is a skilled player, but it is more the fluidity of his game that is pleasing to the eye. Even his misses and bad plays tend to look nice.
I wouldn't say he is a more skilled player than Bird, MJ, Oscar, Bron, etc.
