If Phil was the coach from day 1 of training camp, where would the Knicks be right now?

Obviously above 5 wins imo, but still one of the worst teams in the NBA? Lottery team? Playoff team?

Coaching only gets you so far, this team just has no talent other than Melo. Maybe 23-59 with phil.

H'd have traded JR Smith 10 games earlier, that's for sure

Definitely lotto team. Not much going for this squad. Phil would be a step up over Fisher, but I don't know if they realistically even win 25 games.

Phil would use his zen to propel them to a 60 win team easily in the weak East.

Jesus, Dude. :facepalm

They wouldn't be ANY DIFFERENT. Fisher is being a good minion... doing everything Phil tells him.

I didn't think VP would have the balls to tank and gut this senseless team, but damn if he isn't doing just that.

This team gets to 15 wins, I'm gonna be surprised.

They'd still be very very bad.

So Phil Jackson from day 1 and the Knicks are still at 5 wins? Literally zero improvement?

Yes. Don't you get it? This is the quickest way to improve an organization. Phil wants to do more than just win. He wants to bring credibility back to NY...said it himself.

They didn't start the season tanking. They tore it down and took this route because of how terrible they were playing. It's not like Phil planned to tank this season away in the summer.

best team in the league with melo averaging 8 assists and bargnani averaging 12rpg and 2bpg.

Bargnani has only played one game this season

Maybe would have won a few more of the close games but I don't see it having much of an impact at all. They'd still be a bottom team. Maybe fans would have more hope though.

Seven wins? 8 wins? Phil would never do that though...he doesn't coach teams without top a 5 player in the league (and a top 10-20 2nd player). Too much work and criticism for the "greatest coach of all time".

Phil is a good motivatior and keeps his lads focused, but I've never been impressed by his basketball mind.

They'd be 35-5 :D

Lol, just messin. If P-Jax was coaching the Knicks from day 1, I still think the team would be one of the worst teams in the league. I mean... just look at that crappy roster. Knicks would easily be better, but not by that much. I don't even think Popovich could make them a playoff-caliber team.

Disagree. I think the tank started soon after Calderon's injury. I'm sure it was obvious to management that this "team" wasn't happening. Just my thoughts.

Phil took the job. I'm pretty sure he made it clear he wasn't taking the players. Steve Mills - the disappearing GM. Alan Houston, now in charge of Westchester Knicks. I'm sure he would have fired them too if Jimmy didn't resist.

They would be even worse. PJax is a crappy coach who just got lucky, Jordan and David Stern bailed him so many times.
