I've asked this many times (and never gotten a coherent answer, since quite frankly there is no reasonable answer to explain it).

I'm not talking about a rogue ref here and there, I'm talking about if you truly believe that a mandate comes down from NBA brass dictating the outcome of games, and you still watch then you are a f*cking moron.

Terrible comparison, yet one I knew someone would make. The WWE doesn't profess to be a real sport, whereas the NBA does. That's the difference.

Serious Question.

NBA refs are able to "influence" games, but cannot "rig" them IMO.

Since basketball has become big business, they will try and help the team/players who make the NBA the most money.

After all it's a business.

This. No game is flat out rigged. They are influenced though and we know that the NBA has dictated policies in the past regarding certain players and we all agree that certain players get star treatment or if someone has a reputation for being good at something they get the benefit of the doubt and leeway in those situations. A lot of the time though it's just refs making mistakes but one thing the NBA seems to have a policy on is that after making a blunder they try to make it up to the other team by being more lenient in their favour, the right thing to do is to keep trying to be accurate all the time. I still think the NBA needs a new official who just sits behind a screen watching and can communicate calls to the on court officials via headsets. If they are unsure they can just ask and get a quick decision rather than all having to walk over to a monitor themselves and discuss it.

apt comparison
doesn't matter whether one sport claims to be real and the other accepts to be fake
comparison is about two sets of fans
both of whom know (or claim to know) that what they are watching is rigged

"why do WWE fans continue to watch something they know is rigged?"
answers the question of why do people who think NBA is rigged still watch it.

because it's entertainment.

Why you keep making threads when all your threads are trash/dumb?

People say that the NBA is easy to rig/influence, but has anyone stopped and looked at the NFL? I've talked to football players, and they all say that there's some degree of holding on practically every play. Not to mention how PI, roughing the passer, unsportsmanlike conduct, etc are all pretty debatable yet very often completely change the outcome of the game.

They are not rigged, but influenced, look at 2012 lakers playoffs run to see the refs can influence games.
