Philadelphia has a huge black Muslim population when I lived there for 3 or so years. Some very religious people on the subway read the Quran and pray. I respect that and am perfectly fine with people practicing Islam. I often was misconstrued as being Muslim by a lot of people who used to walk by me (I had a thick beard) and said something in Arabic.

From what I understand the Islam Ali preaches is to Muslims what Mormonism is to mainstream Christian. They are supposed to be a branch of their respective religions, but they are very different, even developing a lot of mythology separated from the main religion. Am I wrong or right?

Another thing that I don't understand is why some blacks convert to Islam because they don't want to adore the God of their oppressors. Most blacks in the USA don't know that Arabs also enslaved them and treated them like shit before the rise of Europe?
