It seems he is heading there. He is 7 years in and no leadership qualities.

How is Karl Malone forgotten? Might want to use a better example like McAdoo or Dantley or the Iceman.

i see the comparison. both lack the ability to lead through adversity. and that may be the thing that defines both of their careers.

Malone was never even the best player in the league, same can't be said with Durant.

Durant will retire top 2-3 all time. A player of his calibre is too good to not end up with at least 3 or 4 rings.

oh the horror

I'll get on Durant, but it's not exactly like he's been a playoff failure thus far. :confusedshrug:

Do you know how hard it is to pass Kareem, Wilt and Russell? They've been in the top 5 forever. Plus Lebron will be up there as well.

he hasn't been a good leader. When things get bad, its Westbrook motivating the team, making the big stops or leading the charge. His teams has been good enough to win titles if he is as good as people say he is.

Durant would have never been the best player in the league during Malone's prime, either. :confusedshrug:

Meh, he's lost to some pretty great teams though. Definitely had a few close calls in series he shouldnt have, but no losses.

Karl and Durant are very similar. Both have had stacked teams nearly their entire careers, but can't do a thing with them. And don't give me that BS about Karl had to face the GOAT. Jordan took a 2 year break in his prime and the Jazz were favored to win it all after Jordan's second retirement. Malone just didn't have what it takes to be great.

Malone scored a lot in the regular season ... his game didn't translate as well to the playoffs ...

I think Durant is a better half-court scorer than Malone, so I guess there may still be some hope.

Karl Malone is one of the 50 best players ever and a top 5-7 PF of all time along Dirk, Barkley, KG, Duncan, and a couple of others.

The only people that will forget Malone are the ones heavily influenced by media and not actual basketball history. Media is rings above all else.

Karl Malone is forgotten?

That dirtbag is far from forgotten. Him not winning a title is actually part of the reason he is remembered, which is rather unfair when he was a terrific player and a member of the Dream Team.

You will frequently hear the media talk about players not wanting to be one of "those guys without a ring", and Barkley & Malone are often brought up.

Malone is also talked about a lot when people praise the deity Michael Jordan.
