View Full Version : Kobe's second year stats are very comparable to Wiggins rookie stats right now.

Kobe averaged 15.4 ppg, .428 FG% .341 from 3, 3.1 reb, 2.5 asts, .9 steals and .5 blocks

Wiggins is averaging 15.2 ppg, .434 FG%, .414 from 3, 4.3 rebs, 1.8 ast, 1.1 steals, .5 blocks

Not saying Wiggins is the next Kobe but at the same age they are putting up pretty similar stats.

Wiggins reminds me a lot of young Kobe. Kid's gonna be an absolute stud.

10 years from now that trade will be looked at as one of the worst ever.

And you can compare MANY players' rookie/sophomore stats to Kobe. They aren't particularly impressive. When you can compare him to 5th (or even 4th) year Kobe, we'll start talking.

Straight up. These Kobe/T-Mac comparisons need to relax until he's doing 28/5/5 in 3 years.

Everyone knows Kobe was garbage his first few years, no need to go on about it

That, and second year Kobe was still on a team with Shaq, Eddie Jones, and Van Exel and put up his stats playing just 27 minutes per game. I think Wiggins has a ton of potential, and his stats should continue to rise, but he's on an awful, injury riddled Timberwolves team and has a lot more free reign this year than Kobe did in his second season.

I don't think the main point is that they were both sophomores, but that they were roughly the same age (Kobe was some months younger).
Though Wiggins plays in a more "teen"-friendly era and, given this team, has more room for statpadding.

How is it going to be one of the worse when they traded him for an 20/10 All-Star guy?

Exactly. 23/6/5 and 29/6/5 with elite defense are horses of a different color.

He can ride whoever he wants to titles, as long as he does it in a Lakers uniform.

Wiggins obviously will not be a bust, but he cant create his own shot. He may still become a 3rd tier superstar like reggie miller or ray allen but that is pretty much his ceiling.

Too bad not on similar minutes so there's really no comparison:

Kobe: 26 minutes
Wiggins: 33 minutes

Wiggins is trending upwards. Wouldn't be surprised to see him averaging 17-18 ppg by the end of the year on decent efficiency.

Stats can be misleading, but in this case there's a definite truth to them. I've laughed at the DeMar Derozan/ Kobe Bryant comparisons in the past (Derozan also had similar stats), but he doesn't pass the eye test. Wiggins clearly does.

He won't be a LeBron/Kobe/MJ clone by any means, but he's going to be a hybrid of these top 5 GOATs.. it's quite extraordinary to be a hybrid of 3 of the greatest wing players of all-time. Just sit back, relax and enjoy greatness develop right before our very eyes. :applause:

He needs to have way better ball handling to be considered in thay triumvirate.

How many players have we seen with a really good rookie and even sophomore year but then fall off or stay around those numbers?

Mayo, Evans, Gordon, etc. etc.

If he's at 20\5\4 next year, 23\6\5 the year after, and 28\6\5 after that on championship teams we can compare him to Kobe.

I think he will have an all-star career, which is great, but I just don't see him becoming a superstar.

Will he be playing with Shaq or rotting on the Wolves for those championship teams?

Weird thing to say. Shaq was the best player in the NBA for the 3-Peat but Kobe was an All-Star level player for the 1st ring and Superstar level player for the other 2. If not for some Superstar Kobe performances the Lakers simply don't 3 peat.

Whether he played with Shaq or not, Kobe performed like a superstar for 2 of those 3 championship runs, and even if Wiggins played with Shaq, he probably wouldn't perform that good, which means no 3-peat.

All depends on winning the title. They do that everything is good. Dumars survived picking Darko. They never win the title and Love/LeBron leave eventually. Ouch.
