one of the best teams ever... could beat any team in history.

I saw every game of this magical season either at the old Spectrum or on television live. This is still one of the great sports experiences of my life, and made a huge impression on me.

The 1982-83 76ers were the best team since the '72 Lakers, and would have been difficult to beat by any team in the 80s or 90s. I would have pit them favorably against the Celtics or Lakers of the 80s or Bulls of the 90s. Just my opinion.

Pitting them against teams today with all that 3point shooting and spread offenses would not be fair. Different rules and different approach on basketball, but in their era they were the best ever in my view.

One player history has forgotten or underrated is Andrew Toney. To me, except for Jordan himself, Andrew Toney's peak abilites were as good offensively as any player I've ever seen, including SGs in today's game.

He was simultaneously a great shooter and great scorer all bundled in stop and go moves with jukes and crossovers in a well chiseled 6'3 frame. When he was on, he was pretty much unstoppable. Had he played in other less talented teams that were built for him, he would have led the NBA in scoring, easily.

When all else failed for the 76ers offensively, Toney was usually the answer in 1982-83.

People always mention the 83 Sixers were among the best starting five in history, a great bench too.

People always mention the 83 Sixers were among the best starting five in history, a great bench too.

Off the bench, we had defensive aces Bobby Jones at SF, Clint Richardson at SG, and 6'10 center Clemon Johnson, who was not a bad post up player.

Then, we had our way of emulating Kurt Rambis with 6'10 horse Marc Iavaron starting at PF. Iavaroni almost never finished games though, and didn't really get starter minutes.
