He seems to be struggling at the moment and I think he's wearing down. He's playing a career high 39.8 minutes this season while also being at times the best player on Chicago. His defense is lagging too just because he's being utilized more offensively and he doesn't have the energy. So what's more important for them... his defense or offense?

Right now it has been his offense. As Rose continues to improve his consistency (if ever fully again) they will need his Defense to be elite again while having a more reasonable 16/6/4 line on offense.

The bulls have always lacked offense.

Defense. Easily their best perimeter defender and guys like Snell don't get the PT to properly develop to get Butler some rest. His offense has been a huge surprise to me compared to last season, but he's tailing off because he's overworked.
Dunleavy & McDermott being out has put more of an onus on him imo. I think the Bulls have enough other offensive pieces, when rolling, to overcome a meh offensive outing from Butler. Last year, Butler wasn't great offensively but his defense changed games enough for them to overachieve big time.

Defense. Butler isn't the offensive player he appeared to be early in the season, he just got off to a hot start and is cooling off. Nicolas Batum 2.0
