There's a lot from this presentation that's exciting. I'm still not sold on the hololens (and it isn't VR), it looks awesome in their demos but I'm wondering how much it will cost as they have said it's a self contained system with it's own hardware inside rather than just streaming like occulus/morpheus. I like the app sharing from windows 10 to xbox and the streaming to any windows 10 device too for xbox. All these devices will take off once p0rn gets involved.

Basically a concept.

Nothing is going to come out of this.

Video reminded me a lot of their initial Natal/Kinect announcement video. The final technology on that didn't end up being anywhere near as good as they originally advertised, and I'm extremely skeptical about how this will turn out.

.....

there's articles around about journos getting to try it out. It's been in development for a long time. I don't think it'll live up to their claims but it's not just a concept.

Comparing it to kinnect isn't really fair either, he kinnect 2.0 can do everything they showed in their demos. The issue with kinnect is that no one developed for it and no one will since they dropped it from the xbox package. There's indie teams that have used it's technology well it just never gained a foothold.

Well less that a year after microsoft released this video:

The iPhone came out.

Now touchscreen devices are everywhere.

Google pulled glass because it wasn't good enough.

Augmented reality is coming. Every major tech company has a stake in it right now.

Good for porn, that's it.
I could see it being useful in the education sector, especially in distance education(but probably too pricey for a long long time). Other than that though my immediate thoughts were porn.

Could take another 10 years for this to be really accessible to us the mass.

Yeah, the Xbox part was pretty cool. Streaming to all Windows 10 devices basically means that your PC is now an Xbox. Additionally, they just introduced cross-platform gaming with Fable Legends.

And I'm assuming that developers will also be able to integrate cross-platform gaming into their games, meaning that PC gamers and console gamers can duke it out with FPS games and so on.

The holograms were cool and shit.

The best part for the company though is probably their unified operating system. Windows 10 will be the OS for all machines and uses the same code. This is huge for their (now unified) app store, which again, will display one app for PCs, phones, tablets, Xbox One, and potentially their new TV that they just introduced.

Even better? Windows 10 is gonna be free for Windows 7 and 8/8.1 users, so the adoption rate should blow up. I'm assuming they didn't want to charge anyone so that people adopt W10 and take advantage of the unified OS, which in turn results in more app development.

Awful. More consumer tech is the last thing that we need for this attention deficit, instant gratification, narcissistic society we've turned into.

I wish these tech companies would focus more on developing tech in how to update our houses, roads, buildings, etc.

More infrastructure development and less consumer development would be a nice change of pace. You can have the nicest gadgets at home but when you gotta take a smelly POS bus as your only choice of public transportation the dichotomy of material life and real life just creates this incongruence and/or apathy.

Rant over.

Looks sick...the buffering would be wild though lol.
