lol, someone didn't watch.

They were sending three guys at him as he crossed the half court line nearing the end of the game. He still passed out, navigated efficiently, got the ball back and scored.

And then Smush's contribution of 13 points capped them as the greatest scoring backcourt in history.

I wasn't clear. Toronto gave up on fielding an actual team that season. Check the roster. Who the **** does that team stop on D? Starting Old Jalen Rose with a frontcourt of young Bosh and MATT BONNER.

Everytime they show that game on NBA TV someone makes a thread drooling over Kobe.

There are teams as bad as that 06 Toronto squad, and players with the green light to shoot. Why did no-one bar Wilt get 81?

Kobe was on pace for 83 points just a month earlier against the soon to be western conference champions... Finished with only 62 though sitting out the fourth.

you can tell the guys who don't watch basketball by how they try and play down an 81 point game

it's hard to score 50 points in a game even against a horrible team, harder to score 60 and 81 points is just nuts when you consider that team was lacking in offensive fire power.. it's just wasn't a very deep team and Toronto was sending lots of defense Kobe's way

One of the greatest individual scoring performances in NBA history. He not only scored those 62 points in three quarters, he outscored the ENTIRE Mavs TEAM in those three quarters. A Dallas team that was 18-6 at the time, and would go on to the Finals.

This Game is the GOAT Individual Scoring Performance and better than Wilts IMO.

Has a case. Still, Wilt's 100 was a full 19 points better.

The Wilt game was interesting. The Warriors were in control the entire game, and Wilt asked to come out earlier in the 4th period, and after he had set the single game mark. But his COACH refused to take him out, and in fact, ordered his teammates to get the ball into Chamberlain.

Meanwhile, the Knicks did everything in their power to prevent the 100 point game. They were stalling, and fouling anyone but Wilt (who, BTW, went 28-32 from the line.) The Warriors countered by fouling quickly, themselves, in order to get the ball back sooner.

It was a complete circus, and many are probably not aware of it, but there was still about a minute left when Chamberlain scored his 100th point.

A couple of other points. In an interview a few years ago, teammate Al Attles (who, as he said combined with Wilt to score 116 points), said that Wilt's teammates were rooting for him to get 100. Furthermore, he said that they were all behind his 50 ppg season (unlike those who claim that Chamberlain's teammates were upset with his "selfish" play.) And again, it was Chamberlain's COACH who had asked Wilt to score 50 ppg that season.

And finally, even Wilt himself, does not acknowledge that 100 point game as his greatest individual achievement. In fact, he was a little embarrassed by the fact that he took 63 FGAs.

Personally, I think that the only player who could have ever put up a serious challenge to that 100 point game, was Wilt, himself. He had some monster 60 and 70+ point games on unfathomable shooting from the field (like 30-40, and 29-35), but even then, it would have taken another exceptional FT shooting game to have broken that record.

Speaking of great scoring games...

How about Wilt in back-to-back games in two consecutive nights in 1962?

On 1/13/62 and against the 6-11 HOFer Walt Bellamy...

73 points, on 29-48 from the floor, and 15-25 from the line, and with 36 rebounds.

And the following night (1/14/62) and against HOFer Bill Russell...

62 points, on 27-45 from the field, and 8-10 from the line, with 28 rebounds.

Later that season he had a five straight game run, over a period of seven nights, with games of...

67 points, on 25-38 from the field, and 17-22 from the line, with 21 rebs.

65 points, on 25-43 from the floor, 15-20 from the line, and 23 rebounds.

61 points, on 24-46 from the field, 13-17 from the line, with 28 rebs.

100 points, on 36-63 from the field, 28-32 from the line, and 25 rebs.

58 points, on 24-41 from the floor, 10-16 from the line, and 35 rebs.

Or a five game AVERAGE of...

70.2 ppg, .580 FG%, .776 FT%, and 26.4 rpg.
