It's set in an alternate reality where the Axis have won the war and now in 1962 the Europe and almost half NA is ruled by Nazis and the other half by the Japanese empire(there is a strip in the middle called the neutral zone). I assume half of Asia is probably ruled by the Japanese as well. It's based on a novel and has a really intriguing plot but I won't go into details.

the book is probably my favorite work by my favorite author (PKD).
interesting that they're doing a series this time around. (usually they turn his stories in to movies)
hopefully they don't screw it up too bad.

I had read that it was running through Amazon's pilot system. The idea is they let a bunch of people put together pilots, then they let people vote on them to decide what to put into production. It didn't work with Transparent, as apparently that tested horribly, and then they put it into production anyway. And they've gone around the system again this year by guaranteeing a series to Woody Allen (duh!). But this I believe was considered the best of what they threw out there during this go round, and is probably going to go into full production. Weather that means a series, or a mini series, single season, even just five episodes or whatever I don't know.
I haven't seen it or read the book for what it's worth, just read about it a couple days ago.

yeah, the i-ching plays a role already. I thought it was set in 62 or something? Havent read it, but now I want to. Pilot was pretty solid.

i'd be interested to know what you think about the book.
the fleeting concept of "wu" (harmony) across precious objects is one of the utterly fascinating themes, IMO.

Second episode wasn't nearly as good, still could be classified as good build up., the last scene with the fight was cringe-worthy though :lol

That concept, although maybe in slightly different shades, is one of the major leitmotivs of Philip K Dick's work. It's, for instance, one of the things that makes "Do androids dream of electric sheep?" such a beautiful novel.

whoa my god... ten episodes just got released a few days ago.
already it's turned in to a controversy in NYC, where amazon decided to put the alternate flags and stuff on display around the city:

^ Following up with what he posted, Amazon has caved to the PC police and has decided to remove the subway advertisements.
This was great advertisement for the show to be honest.

I just realized something. Isn't what the PC crowd is doing by censoring stuff like this the same thing that happens in the show?? Isn't it the same thing that happens in Totalitarian regimes??
PC Police = Modern day Nazis.

on the flip side, i think you have to pick your spots and not pointlessly insult people just because you have a chip on your shoulder about PC-ness.
take this girl for example... katherine timpf from fox news:

I started watching over the weekend. It's pretty good. The performances are a bit flat yet, and it's taken the three episodes I'm in for the plot to take hold enough. The world building is the best part. Unfortunately there just isn't enough of it. Aside from the wrap around scenes where there's usually a mediocrely done digital painting of some Nazi or Japanese war propaganda on the outside of building, the rest of it is really just dressed sets and interiors that could belong to any tv show set in a rough setting.
But the Joe character and plot is finally starting to materialize, and it's enjoyable enough for me to stick it out for the payoff.

Juliana and Tagomi become unbearable by the time you finish the season.

for me, she went from funny to mildly insulting to being a clueless narcissist then to a victim in just a few sentences. i mean wow, was that some f-cking efficiency right there or what?
i mean, star wars is obviously taken very seriously by a lot of people. you don't need to be some kind of nerdly expert to understand that, you just need a clue in life.
it would be similar to me publicly insulting nascar or country music, something like that. if a couple of people were to respond with death threats, then shame on them. if a LOT of people were to send me death threats and i chose to publicly wallow in them, then i would have to admit that not only was i an idiot in the first place, but that i was then choosing to maintain my idiocy.
it's all very trumptastic.
Isn't all of Fox News a satirical comedy show? Moving on is this show worth picking up?
