*Jersey Retired by the Atlanta Hawks
*First player to ever score 20,000 points
*Won his first MVP, Scoring Title, and Rebounding title all in one season
Stats:
20880 points (first to ever score 20,000 pts) @ 26.4 PPG
12849 rebounds @ 16.2 RPG
2369 assists @ 3.2 APG
Best Statistical year: 1961-62 - 31.1 PPG 18.7 RPG 3.7 APG
How many power forwards have a better combination of stats and resume than him? Tim Duncan? Anyone else? Short list. He should always be at or near the top of any all-time PF list.

I agree, he was pretty damn good. I just wish the Hawks were in Atlanta at the time of his presence.
Top 20 player of all time, but he's underrated like hell for some reason.
People have Charles Barkley in theit All Time lists over ****ing Pettit. Like really?
He is the only man to stop the force of Russell.
Granted Bill was injured in a couple games, but so was Pettit in that series.

Can't wait to watch this. I must have watched your previous Pettit mixtape about 25 times.

I love Bob Pettit. Much respect. It's a shame a guy like him and other greats are largely forgotten.

1957-58. Pettit and Wilt were the only guys to lead teams to victory during that Celtic Dynasty run.

You and I both knew that, but evidently Richesly didn't. And Chamberlain crushed a healthy Russell in that series, as well.
BTW, I have long maintained that Chamberlain finally had a roster that EQUALED Russell's in that 66-67 season.
How about these interesting numbers from the '66-67 EDF's...
Philly outscored Boston, per game, in that series, by a 121.2 ppg to 111.2 ppg margin... or +10.0 ppg.
Wilt outscored Russell, per game, by a 21.6 ppg to 10.2 ppg margin... or +11.4 ppg.
Philly outrebounded Boston, per game, by a 67.8 rpg to 60.8 rpg margin... or +7.0 rpg.
Wilt outrebounded Russell, per game, by a 32.0 rpg to 23.4 rpg margin... or +9.6 rpg.
Philly outassisted Boston, per game, by a 25.4 apg to 24.4 apg margin... or +1.0 apg.
Wilt outassisted Russell, per game, by a 10.0 apg to 6.0 apg margin... or +4.0 apg.
Philly outshot Boston from the field in that series by a .448 to .403 FG% margin... or +.045.
Without the Wilt-Russell match-up, Philly outshot Boston by a .431 to .408 FG% margin... or +.023.
Wilt outshot Russell from the field in that series by a .556 to .358 FG% margin... or +.198.
Oh, and in their known blocked shots in that series, Chamberlain held a 29-8 margin.
In any case, remove the Wilt-Russell match-ups from that series, and it was basically dead-even.
Include the Wilt-Russell match-ups, and it was a Philly rout across the board.

Watching that tape made me realize that the greatest strategic change in adding the 3pt line probably isnt the 3pt line itself. But the corner 3's where the distance is clear to be much shorter than your regular 3's.

i don't think his game would translate well today, but at the same time, i'm grateful that he was a pioneer who helped build the foundation we see put today. great player for his day and a great mix to celebrate him.

I haven't attempted to count his field goals made on film yet to get an educated guess how much of his "career" field goals exist on film but I'd bet it is closer to 1% or slightly less, vs the 2% or slightly more I can typically find of 60's to early 70's superstars, and Pettit's clips are very bias towards all-star game footage. Not a single Bob Pettit era St Louis Hawks game broadcast exists on film in my collection.

Petit is underrated.
His combo of resume and stats is pretty hard to ignore. He's gotta be ranked extremely high on Forward/PF lists. 2x MVP, scoring titles, a rebound title, Championship and might as well give him an FMVP with that 50 point 25 rebound clinching game.
