LaMarcus Aldridge (left thumb ligament tear) to put surgery on hold, will play tonight vs Wizards.

Bad decision or good?

If he can play though it and not do further damage to the thumb then go for it..

the possibility of long term damage is the only issue

F*ck yes:bowdown:

Portland has a 8.5 game lead on OKC for the division. Without Aldridge that is in serious danger. I say he waits to the off season if he can. It is on his non-shooting hand. Kobe played with torn ligaments on his shooting hand.

F***. I figured we had a good chance to win with them missing 2 starters.

I had a right thumb ligament tear last year that I didn't get surgery on for ~1 month (and played pickup during this time). Of course, I didn't know it was torn at the time. Almost EVERY time I'd play though my thumb would get ****ed up which is what prompted me to go to the doc.

It's been ~6 months since I got surgery and it's pretty functional now. I can play ball no problem, but obviously it isn't (and never will be) 100%.

So I say it's a bad/dumb decision since he KNOWS it's torn and needs surgery, but if my thumb is any indication, it's not really likely to result in worse damage in the long run. It'll just take a bit longer for recovery.

As an opponent I'd target that thumb. Is that bad or smart to win a game?

It's actually kinda sad really. It shows that you're afraid. I'd be scared if I were Houston. He dropped back to back 40 point games in their arena in the playoffs. Damn near had a 50 and 20 game but he fouled out of the game.

Bad . Get it as soon as possible. Unless he has no intention to fix it this season.

This is the point where "alpha" becomes "retarded". I like the spirit of what he's doing but seriously, Portland needs you 100% so just take the time off to get it fixed and come back full strength. If anything further happens to it, this season is basically ****ed for the Blazers.

Blazers are in the West. Without LMA for 6 weeks would **** them up regardless.

And he possibly proceeds to make the injury worse, misses the season instead of 90 days.

That'd be smart.

Shows how much faith he has in Lillard to be the alpha dog.

If he was an alpha, he'd just amputate the thumb already. Using cast..beta move.

He needs his thumb to hitchhike a ride in Dame Lillard's car.

Do you even need a thumb to play basketball? If I were blessed with LMA's size and athleticism, I could at least be Motiejunas-level with only a index and pinky on each hand.

If it's on his non-shooting hand, it'll be fine.

Damian Lillard is not good enough to carry the team for 4 quarters. He just isn't. Teams are double teaming him hard on any pick and role. If Batum wasn't playing at a d-league level right now we might be able to survive a while. We need Aldridge out there. Even if he can only get 15 PPG.

If Lopez and Freeland came back I'd say go get the surgery.

So you'd rather risk Aldridge missing more time, or time closer to the playoffs and play through something like this, as opposed to bandaiding with Kaman, T-Rob and 10 day guys?

Good. I think it's cool for him to test how much it will effect him. Doctors said there's minimal risk of him causing damage. Go for it, your team needs you.

Yes. And you'd want the same thing if Blake Griffin or Chris Paul said they would play with that injury. If it was a knee thing I'd say no way. This is a finger issue. It's not like he could lose his finger if he keeps playing. He's likely going to need an entire summer for full recovery anyway.
