View Full Version : Lebron will pass kobe in scoring

Kobe career points is 32482 Lebron career points is 24079. Lets say Kobe retires all lebron needs to do is average 26ppg for four straight seasons. If kobe plays one more year it will be harder to pass him but Lebron is 30 and can play up to 7+ more seasons either way Lebron is on pace to surpass him in points.

At the beginning of the year I'd say you're crazy. But given the events of the past couple of weeks (LeBron coming back from rehab or whatever Miami looking magically replenished, and Kobe being knocked out for the year, with his career in question), it's more of a possibility.

These things change all the time though. I though KD was likely to finish ahead of both of them last year, but then this foot thing happened (and I think it's the same injury Bill Walton, Yao Ming, Brook Lopez had/have to deal with).

Bottom line, can't take health for granted IMO. I don't feel comfortable hand-waving 7 more years to LeBron, or even Durant.

I thought this was obvious. LebRon was a starter his rookie year, Kobe didn't start till his 3rd season, add in Kobe's unfortunate injuries the past three years and it's a no surprise at all.

Basically this. You never know what freak accidents could happen to any player. Durant I would say is on pace to surpass Lebron and Kobe. I would say Lebron retires after his next max contract, which would be 2020 or 2021. Durant seems to be healthy but that foot might be an actual problem. If not he should retire in like 10 years.

Won't happen. His ppg will dip.

Top Gun

He probably will.

KD will destroy them both though. Doesn't rely on athletic ability as much as either of them. He will be Dirk v2 in 10+ years.

26ppg for four straight seasons is damn hard to get. Lebron is right now still the best or at least top 3-4 in this league (with curry, harden and durant). but he is declining, you cant deny it.
saying that, you can see that lebron is focusing on his all around game, not just shooting like kobe.

lebron will probably have more like 22-24 ppg, 6-7, 8 reb seasons.

He will eventually pass him if he plays 6 more healthy seasons.

Lebron will have ~25000 points by the end of this year, which leaves him 7500 short of Kobe, and Lebron is likely to play at least 6 seasons more (1 left on current contract + 5 years on new contract). With that in mind I think it is indeed quite likely that Lebron will pass Kobe in scoring, but injuries can happen at any time, so you never know.

His athleticism was non existent prior to his two week rehab, yet he was still a top 5 player. :confusedshrug:
Lebron is going to age very well, and anyone who thinks otherwise doesn't know basketball.

Top 5 player now at 30 with limited athleticism, barely a top 5 seed in the East vs the same player 7 years from now with no athleticism, who already refers to himself as "old". He doesn't have the tools to survive past his prime. Still decent 3-4 years from now, sure. 6 and 7 is being incredibly hopeful, and incredibly na

Yea, I think so too, as long as he can still play above the rim at the high level he's known for beyond the next like 4 or 5 years.

Genaro
01-25-2015, 03:39 AM
I don't think he will sinceI don't think Lebron will be able to play 7 more seasons. I mean he can but it won't be at a high level.
Probably he won't be able to average 25 PPG for much longer.

People are being reeeeeeeeally optimistic about Lebron playing another 6 or 7 years. He doesn't need to. He will be 7,500 points shy of Kobe's total at the end of this season. He could easily reach that in 4 seasons if he's healthy. Assuming Kobe plays 60 games next season and gets his 22 points a game, Lebron would need another a year to make sure he surpasses Kobe (I don't see lebron averaging 28 over the next four years). So he'd need to play 5.

Barring injuries, he'll leave Kobe lying in his wake. With EASE.

Again. Doesn't need to do it for 7 more years. 4 more and he'll surpass Kobe. 7 more and he'll surpass Kareem but I don't see that happening.

I can honestly see LeBron retiring before any serious injuries. I don't think he will play as many seasons as Kobe

Kobe bryant will probably retire with 33,500 points. lets make it 33,700 points by giving him about 1300 more points for next season after which i think he will retire.

lebron right now has: 24079 points.
difference = 9621

lets say he scores 900 more this season which is very reasonable accounting for a couple of games which he will miss near the end of the season.

he looks like he will give at least 3 more 25+ ppg seasons.
68 games a season for next 3 seasons = 204 games
25ppg for next 3 = 5100 pts

lets assume he averages 22ppg for next 2 seasons after that with 65 games per season.
22ppg for next 2 seasons= 2860

he plays for 1 more season at 19 ppg for 60 games= 1140 points
so if lebron retires at 36 which is very reasonable and declines like he should then total would be:
34079 points.

this would be about 400 points more than kobe and you can take out 14-5 more games from next seasons and he still would retire with more points than kobe.

i have assumed that lebron will miss 110 games(more than 1 full season) in next 6 seasons and he is still on pace to score 34000 points.

Well said. There are no guarantees. LeBron has a lot of mileage on him already. He's got a decent shot to pass Kobe, but I don't think it'll be easy.

What was the severity of KD's injury?

I mean MJ broke his foot his 2nd year and didn't even lose athleticism. Was brillaint by the time the post season came around. I don't think it's an injury that debilitates you.

However the other guy's you mentioned, especially the first two, had their careers forever altered.

I haven't watched much of KD this season, but is he any worse for wear compared to previous seasons?
