I messaged the seller on whether or not the crack effects the sound quality but I haven't received a response yet.

To anyone that knows anything about instruments, is this cello worth buying?

Depends on how much?

I'm in the market for a cheap cello to just mess around with. I want to learn but I will not be getting any professional lessons.

Amazon sells some "beginner" cellos for $200-$300. But of course they are very cheap. This cracked cello supposedly retails for $900 and I might be able to get it for a couple hundred.

Ask the buyer to post a video of him playing the cello. To see if all the acoustics are up to par.

This. I play cello (only for about two years now) and the only cracked cello i've played sounded absolutely horrible - not even worth 50$. Even with a video i'd still be hesitant because the instrument will be so fragile, but if it sounds adequate i'd say it's worth it to drop $200 on it.

craigslist. You are bound to fine a used one that isn't cracked for a good deal. Call around to some mom and pop music shops too, they seem to deal with more band and orchestra instruments than guitar center or sam ash. You can even rent one before you buy it to make sure it's an instrument you enjoy playing.

The cello ended up selling for $220 shipped. The seller got back to me after the auction had already ended and told me they really couldn't tell me more about the item. Sounds like its a warehouse type seller and the person responding was just a customer service rep.

I think I am going to buy an electric cello on Amazon for $330. They seem pretty cool and you can do stuff like this with them:
