View Full Version : When's Kawhi gonna start showing why he was FMVP?

Hey Yo
01-25-2015, 09:59 PM
He's been pretty ordinary this year after about 30 regular season games.

Will he turn it on as the season goes on or is this the Kawhi we're going to get?

He's a role player who got hot from Pop's system. Dont expect too much from him stat wise but the impact is clearly there. That said he's the best player on a proven team.

He had that eye thing at the beginning of the season and then had the terrible thumb injury. And the Spurs have still completely bounced back once he returned.

how did you forget the Spurs are a team? they haven't had a 'star' player i.e., iso ballhog in years.

And always disrupting an offense whether in the set, improvised, or transition.

Within the context of the Spurs that is astoundingly great ball. That is a Duncan level statline.

Duncan and Kawhi carry this team. We aren't playing great team ball this season. Most of our role players could give a shit.

Danny Green?

I mean more since Kawhi's return. In December it was all Danny, Cory and Tim.

Danny has been in Pop's doghouse lately because he can't seem to the hit the ocean at times and his defense, whilst still elite, hasn't been as sharp (neither has Tim's or Kawhi's to be honest so I can't be mad).

But yes, Kawhi, Tim and Danny have definitely been our top 3 players this year.

So, after Kawhi's FMVP he was supposed to drop that whole ball-movement system in order to jack up ISO shots to improve personal stats?

Whenever he faces LeBron on the big stage I guess.

I mean, you didn't expect JJ Barea and Jason Terry to miraculously become all star players just because they clowned on LeCramp on the biggest stage, did you?

Kawhi's been Isolating quite a bit the past 5-6 games...kind of ignoring open shooters...and he's not great at it.

I don't mind it though. The Regular Season is about improvement and chemistry building as far as I'm concerned.

So ISO away, Kiwi. As long as you aren't terrible at it.

Timmy's averaging 15 ppg and Manu's averaging 12 ppg. Hardly guys that should hold any teammate back scoring-wise.

He got hot in the finals and still only averaged 18, 6 and 2... Spurs have lots of good players, no top ten players so thats why he won FMVP. Winning FMVP does't automatically mean you're a superstar, or have top ten production.

People act like he was a defensive god in the finals... Lebron averaged 28, 8 and 4 on 57% from the field and 52% from 3, he hardly shut him down.

Leonard is most definitely very overrated. He's a good player but he isn't even close to a superstar. Idk how people even came up with that absurd notion anyways.

rmt
01-26-2015, 08:54 AM
No one (not even Leonard) knows what his ceiling is because he's never been allowed to be a #1 scoring option. He's had to score within the Spurs' system - taking 3 pters or cleaning up on the boards - rarely did he iso or take his own shot. Seems like Pop's experimenting with that now - but he has a long way to go before he gets used to shouldering more of the scoring load. In the meantime, his elite defense and rebounding are still there.

Mr Exlax
01-26-2015, 09:08 AM
He's not the first role player to win a FMVP. You just have to be in the right position for only a week or two to get it. Credit goes to him, but more should go to the Spurs system and how bad the Miami Heat gameplan was.

The **** are you blathering about, idiot? Barea went from 10/2/4 in the RS to 9/2/3 (on 38/33/71) in the Finals. Dropped 11/3/3 on 48/46/88 against the Servant though. Terry averaged 2 points more than what his did in the RS though. Got ridiculously hot in the final 2 games though.

Leonard's the 2nd most impactful player in the NBA after Lebron according to this year's RAPM:

http://stats-for-the-nba.appspot.com/ratings/RAPM_2015.html

Lebron has the highest offensive impact in the league.
Leonard has the highest defensive impact.

Lebron:
5.1 - Off
0.9 - Def
6.0 - Total

Leonard:
1.9 - Off
4.0 - Def
5.9 - Total

Lebron has yet to win when he "coasts".

He should talk to Kobe about that (09/10). He can thank him for the 2 MVP's at the same time.

Every perimeter player shot poorly that game. The defense was crazy. Obviously you look at box scores, or if you don't, have no clue what you're watching

He is absolutely living up to his hype. His net rating is something like +11 when he's on the court.
He's the best perimeter defender in the league.
Best rebounding small forward in the league.
Best small forward at playing passing lanes and getting on ball steals
Coast to coast threat
Spaces the floor for teammates
Draws double teams
Shuts down the other teams' best player

He's just as good if not better than last years Paul George. He's not their number one scoring option so he doesn't get the same PPG. Only area George has the advantage in (and just barely) is passing. However, Kawhi doesn't need to be a flashy passer. He posts up and finds the open man.
Since he came back from his hand injury, he's averaging something like 16 PPG, 10 RPG, 3 APG, 2.5 SPG. You tell me that isn't good for a number 2 or 3 option on the defending championship team.

post facts to prove your point. it must not be hard given that quarter-wise breakdown is given plus play-by-play. a playoff game is only over if the other team is leading by 25 with 7 mins to go and so on.

Weird enough, everybody was clowning him for not playing in the final 5 minutes in game 5 even the fact that the Heat were down by 16 points.

Can some of y'all just admit that y'all don't like him instead of cherry picking everything?
