View Full Version : How is DJ Augustine not a starter?
I said all last season he should have been starting over Heinrich.
He balled out for me in fantasy all last season, then he goes to Detroit and he's a back up again? Nobody needed a starting caliber PG?
I picked him up the minute Jennings went down and once again, he's taking over.
6, 5, 3 at halftime after having 35, 8, 4 in his first start last night.

He must like being a backup, some guys like getting paid millions to come off the bench for limited minutes.

DJ Augustine is like Luigi. Everyone knows he's better than whoever is starting in-front of him like Mario and Luigi. Fvck Mario. This post was never about DJ Augustine. It's about my irrational hated of a video game character. Why is he fat and yet fast as fvck and jump stupid high? I'm sick of him.

DJ Augustin is gonna be pissed that no one on ISH knows how to spell his name correctly

Not like he hasn't had his chance. The guy was a lottery pick and starter in Charlotte for a little while. Guess coaches fell he's better off the bench for whatever the reason.

Most teams already have their starting point guard set in stone. Comparing him to other point guards, he is no better than average.
Him and Monroe are keeping the Pistons hopes alive.
He had even missed two gimme layups that rolled around the rim. He's off to a great start.

I'd like to see him as the Rockets starting guard.

Gotta ask....
Did he already play for the Rockets? :lol

He probably had a contract for a few hours at one point or another.

Reminds me of the Darren Collison situation.
Flourish being a backup point guard to Chris Paul, then disapointed as the starter in Indiana, then later in Dallas after replacing the retired Jason Kidd. The particular thing here is player need to find the best fit for them to thrive, for some players it's a bench role, they'd be a mess as starters, others it's a specific team, that seems to be the circumstances with Collison, now in Sacramento he has been playing really well as a starter.
For Augustine, same thing, was decent to mediocre in Charlotte, then had moments with the Bulls, now is having success in Detroit (which will have to be evaluated).
In my opinion, he is starting caliber and a damn good scorer, yet Detroit might not be the place for him to have alot of success, try the Lakers or Knicks, sure teams that are down in the dirt, but man could he put up ridonculous stats there.

I knew little about Augustin's career before he came to Detroit. From what I've heard, he was almost out of the league last year before being picked up by Chicago. I understand role variance and fitting with the right team, but crazy to imagine there wasn't a spot for him somewhere.

he sucks
19, 9, 4, 2 steals
8/15 from the field. 3 3's made.
Pistons high scorer and high assiter.
After dropping 35 his first night as a starter, he puts up a solid line like this.
Some guys aren't full-time starter material.
He definitely didn't play like this on the Pacers.......

Augustine KILLED it last year on the Bulls and was solid in the playoffs as well. He should be starting for sure SOMEWHERE out there.
To be honest I think it's cuz he's 5'11" or so. He's listed at 6' but you can see he's smaller than anyone besides Nate Robinson and JJ Barea, and coaches discriminate like **** against PGs without size

augustin was our leading scorer last season. to be the leading scorer on a playoff team to coming off the bench for a borderline playoff team is strange. I'm pretty sure he was our best 3 point shooter too.

Vogel kills offensive talent to be honest.

Beno Udrih as a starter is 3-0 and averaging nearly 14 points on nearly 70% FG%

2 games as a starter
27, 8.5, 4 on 20/35 from the floor vs the Cavs and Toronto.
He did this last season for the Bulls, but when Heinrich was healthy, he always got the nod.

Because of nights like tonight.
I watched the game for a bit and it doesn't even seem like he is trying to do anything on offense. he just brings the ball up and makes a simple pass.
probably put his game check on the sixers.

Mario's ceiling is higher than luigi's. If he just worked on his body
I think the announcers yesterday said augustin has issues with stamina. I don't know if thats recurring. He's going from some minutes to a lot very quickly, so we'll see if he keeps up a starting pg level consistently.

Yup, and if he isn't hitting his shots, he's rather useless. Exactly what's happening tonight. Dude couldn't exploit a poor team like the Sixers. He has absolutely no control of this team like Jennings did.
Lol @ OP. Starter my big, black, hairy ass.

Too small, bust out of Texas and da Bulls made him.

28 and 12 last night.
21/8/3 on 51/43/91 since becoming a starter... Even with his 2 point 0-7 shooting night.

He'll hurt you on defense (Wall and old man Andre Miller exposed him in the playoffs last year) but he's very helpful to teams struggling offensively. He isn't much of a leader out there but he is really good on the PnR and can shoot lights out.
Honestly.. he just isn't starter material. This is nothing like the Darren Collison situation at all. . Collison had been producing for years and playing solid ball even in the playoffs.
Problems with Dj is that he has little to no athleticism - which hurts him especially on defense. Stationary dribble but doesn't go anywhere.. therefore wasting possessions. There's probably a hundred guards outside the nba that can do what he does tbqh.
100 other guards outside the NBA could average 21 and 8 while shooting 50%?
Well then, please let Morey know where one of those 100 are, because the rockets could use a borderline all star PG.

Did you just call DJ borderline all-star??
Did you just call DJ borderline all-star??
21 and 8 is borderline all star, and apparently there are 100 of those guys not even playing in the league.
So, no, I did not call DJ a borderline all star.
22, 12, 4 at the beginning of the 4th quarter.

This was so ****in corny
21.8 ppg
9.2 apg
3.0 rpg
54/48/92
In 5 games as a starter.
I'm telling ya, if he's still a FA for some reason in your fantasy league, pick him up. He's a top 10 PG ROS.

Augustin is picking up where Jennings left off. One bad game, but killed it every other night. I feel like the team completely crumbles when he's off the floor.

i love DJ dude is a great player. Just not good on defense because of his size. if he was 6'3 he would be a starter easily

I picked up DJ in fantasy the day Jennings went down, because I got him last year when he was starting for the Bulls. He was incredible, dude consistently kills it. I'm talking this is a guy I got off waivers who throws down 20/8 regularly. He should definitely be starting somewhere. I'd take him over MCW, Elfrid Payton, Calderon, or Jarett Jack who are all starting.
He dropped 25/13/4 on 8-14 shooting with a couple 3s today. Dude is a beast.

Same here. Had him last season and he killed it when Heinrich didn't play.
Picked him up the minute I saw Jennings went down. He will end up being the best WW pick up of the season.
