via SBNation (http://www.sbnation.com/nba/2015/1/27/7920903/james-harden-mvp-stephen-curry-lebron-james):

1. James Harden
If you want to argue for Curry because the Rockets lost all four games to the Warriors this season by double-digits, go ahead. Curry vs. Harden is splitting hairs, so I'd have no problem with Curry winning the award. He's been No. 1 on these rankings the majority of the year.

But Harden is having an otherworldly season and it wasn't his fault Houston lost to Golden State in the fourth and final meeting of the year last week. The Rockets' shooting guard poured in 33 points in 32 minutes, but he got little help in an ugly loss. In the last two games combined after the loss to the Warriors, Harden put up 70 points, 15 assists and 14 rebounds.

Harden is putting up career-best numbers in points, assists and rebounds, and his efficiency has picked up in a big way after a slow start. In January, he's shooting better than 49 percent overall and nearly 44 percent from three.

The Rockets are a disaster offensively when Harden sits, and Houston is 31-14 despite a slew of key injuries. Mix all this together, and I like Harden at No. 1 for now.

2. Stephen Curry
It feels blasphemous to drop Curry here, because he's the stud point guard of the best team in the league. He's one of the NBA's most dangerous shooters who is also handing out over eight assists per game. He makes the Warriors go.

But one could argue Curry hasn't even been the best player on his team this month. That honor goes to Klay Thompson, who's having an outrageous January. It's true that playing with Curry helps Thompson a great deal, but Thompson and the rest of the talented Warriors also help Curry. Harden doesn't have the same depth of talent around him in Houston and he has been far and away the best player on the Rockets this season.

Only because of Klay's last two games.

genuinely speaking i don't know why people credit curry so much for the warriors success. I always felt like him and klay were the matched duo who both held important roles for the team.

As of now its
Harden
Curry
Lebron

Lebron is making a huge push so both the top 2 should watch out.

I think Harden should be the front runner as of right now due to the injuries his team has dealt with compared to the stacked team Curry is currently playing on. Bran will make things interesting though with how Cleveland is playing.

Curry easily. Not even close.

Call me when the Rockets are closing in on the 1 seed.

Yes, we are "fixing" to act like James Harden is not the consensus MVP leader.

I agree with the OP that Curry is easily the leader at this point.

A huge push for what? The 4th seed in the East??

Your not a realistic MVP candidate if your a .500 ballclub.

He missed significant time though, which needs to be factored in. His team sucked without him. :confusedshrug:

Be honest. You, me and everyone know that he will be in MVP talks later this year.

Always hated that argument. Rewarding players for missing time.

Pet peeve.

:biggums:

The fact that he missed significant time is another reason why he's not a viable candidate. You don't get bonus points for resting.

Not that he's MVP but ZBo is underrated.

Memphis is 29-7 with ZBo and 4-5 without him.

He's top 5 in double-doubles with 26. (16 straight I think)

3rd in rebounds per game at just under 12.

Last week I heard he had the best +/- in the last 2 minutes of a game too.

24-12 with him in the lineup, which is well above .500

So in other words twice as many losses and 12 fewer wins than Curry.

But we know the Warriors wouldn't be 1-8 without him like the Cavs are without Lebron.
Curry is great and all, but he arguably isn't even the best player on his own team.

We don't know anything because Curry isn't going to take a mid season siesta during the toughest part of the schedule to date to "rejuvenate".

Home wins. Silly thing to point to, but technically correct.

Pains me to say it, but Harden is number two in the MVP race to Curry right now if the voting happened today.

We'll see where everyone ends up at the season's conclusion.

We all know Lebron is is EASILY the best player in NBA still and the most important player which in my mind is what an MVP is all about however the team wins and voter fatigue not to mention he is started slow will probably cost him. However, If the Cavs go on a tear the rest of season and Lebron is averaging 28,7,6 rest of the way than he will be in the mix in the end.

No, that would be Anthony Davis. Shame he doesn't have a better supporting cast.

that's why you "always hated this argument"......

Rockets are only 5th seed. Harden won't win MVP at 5th seed. If he gets up to 2nd seed, then yeah, he can beat Steph.

Lebron apologists seriously want Lebron to get bonus points for missing games during the regular season for a regular season award. :applause:
