Perhaps the greatest Grand Slam victory in Mens tennis against the largest of odds.
An unseeded wildcard, Ivanisevic performed the impossible.
From the second round, he went through Carlos Moya, Andy roddick, Greg Rusedski, Marat Safin, Tim Henman then finally Pat Rafter in an epic final.
This is perhaps the greatest sporting mountain I've seen an athlete overcome against all odds. I couldn't believe what I was witnessing when I saw this.
Can anyone remember this tournament? Just unbelievable.
Here's a video of the last game of the final. Remember, Ivanisevic had failed 3 previous times to win a Wimbledon final.

Yes, remember watching the final: was epic. Couldn't be done on the Wimbledon courts of today, though.
Oh, and that video is a 'compilation of funny interviews' or something, not that final.

One of the best finals ever.
One of the funniest mess ups by a tennis reporter:

moya - clay court specialist
roddick - 18 year old kid
rusedski - had nothing besides a serve
safin - struggled on grass his entire career
henman - renowned choker
rafter - had no baseline game
gaston gaudio winning roland garros was far more remarkable

What?
Ivanisevic was an old, out of form wildcard with a recurring shoulder injury, battled through long matches and countless court time.
FIRST EVER WILDCARD TO WIN WIMBLEDON.
Not only that, he had already faltered 3 times previously and seemed like he had run out of chances.
You are comparing that to a guy ranked 44 in the world, 26 years old and a decent player at the time playing on his best surface winning the French Open.
Yes he won some matches in dramatic fashion, but don't let that fool you into believing his mountain was anywhere near goran in Wimbledon.
Lol at people playing down goran's opponents like they were nothing :oldlol:
and LOL for suggesting rafter, henman and safin weren't formidable opponents at the time.
