The Nets get to save on luxury tax by releasing him, and open up a roster spot for a younger player to rebuild their roster around Plumlee and their other young players.

I would love Kevin Seraphin, young big who has a lot of upside who can learn to shoot under Millsap and Horford and Antic, but I doubt the Wizards want to help the Hawks out.
