No, he has already stated that he's coming back next season and why wouldn't he

This will be a very difficult road for Kobe. 9 month is estimated but with a torn cuff, you never know when you will regain the strength and range of motion. No idea what to expect.

He'll be back for next season. He's not the kind of guy who would end his career on that note, even if he's not playing is best basketball anymore it's better than succumbing to injury.

LAL better add some legit talent by that time. It;ll be sad seing Kobe retire in a god awful team like the last couple of years.

Hope he has one last good year next year, has a farewell tour, and goes out in a great fashion.

Then on to the Hall of Fame.

9 months? Michael would have been back in 8.

Time to call it a career. I agree though, he will be back. After next season though, he needs to retire. He has left a great legacy but everyone gets old. All the mileage has just caught up with him. Duncan, Dirk, Pierce, KG are soon to follow.

If Lakers organization does nothing for him this summer then kobe should just shut it down and retire.

What if he doesn't make it?

Next year will be his swan song. He passed MJ in scoring, and a 6th ring is pretty much out of the question( at least as far as him leading a team to a title, which is the only condition that he would accept and clearly LA is light years away from being a contender). And his body obviously will not hold up long enough to challenge Kareem.

He could do the playmaking next season- his declining athletism is still above average playmakers, he had skills which will be still available, just no need to attack the basket or do the scoring. That shoulder injury could give some rest to his feet in do the favor in disguise for Lakers.
They could regroup in the summer, probably add some young talent and do some good signings/free agency, although I am a little bit sceptical overall. I am not sure that Laker's franchise is managed properly those days.

I hope he takes another 20-30 million, leaving no chance for the lakers to sign anyone decent.

wow 9 months. basketball players seem to stay out injured for a lot longer than other sports i watch. I cant remember soccer/tennis players being out for 9 months due to shoulder injury. maybe i'm misremembering
