I think they let them play the game themselves and then edited it to sell the game.

Like the part where he was just kicking him in the shin was those two just playing.

Not to be a killjoy, but a lot of this felt cringey. Not from Conan's part, but the athletes felt like the stereotypical "awkward, forcing things in front of the camera" type. Nothing really against them because doing stuff like that is not their job, but I happened to catch this last night and kept thinking, "Wow, not really giving a ton for Conan to work with." Very forced and juvenile in parts.
