The warehouse is basically stuffed with fuel. It a storage area that holds files from several city agencies and other companies. 4 million boxes stuffed with paper are fueling this fire.

They say firefighters will need to be on the site for weeks, because even after it's out the embers will smolder for quite a while.
The FDNY has 55 units & 275 firefighters responding to the 7-alarm fire in Brooklyn.

I've driven to manhattan and back twice during this period and haven't noticed a whiff of smoke. Weird. Must be blowing the other way.

As you can see from that first picture it's well north of the Williamsburg bridge, let alone the Brooklyn Bridge and the smoke isn't crossing the river. It's blowing towards greenpoint and bushwick

Warehouse went right up to the water and they are now fishing documents out of the East River
