View Full Version : Why do you think AD has cooled down?

He clearly isn't dominant like he was in November and December and he's dropped out of the MVP race. What's the deal?

If the season ended today he'd have the best PER in history. He hasn't cooled off, he's missed a couple of games due to injury.

He's been playing great and has major potential still, plus I'm not saying that that means nothing... but PER can't really be compared across eras and it's not even close to being the ultimate stat relative to one's peers...

Hence why PER is a garbage stat.

Why is it garbage? Are you saying it isn't correctly saying that of those people playing over 30 minutes a game, AD, Westbrook, Curry, Harden, Durant, and LeBron are the best players in the game.

Is it wrong?

Not in that order, no.

It's a nice stat to have, but it really doesn't mean anything, especially if you're comparing across eras. Heck, there's nothing to suggest Anthony Davis is the best player in the league right now, nothing.

I didn't post the actual order, and that's not what PER says it is.

But you do agree. Great!

He's actually been rather consistent.

Nov...14 games- 25/11 56.7fg% 2.6bpg
Dec...16 games- 24/10 57.4fg% 2.5bpg
Jan... 11 games- 25/10 52.8fg% 2.7bpg

Perhaps garbage isn't the best word to use, but PER is very misleading.

Well, losing tends to do that.

Such bullcrap.

Can we get over the "best player on best team" garbage? Nobody can do it alone.

I tend to agree with you, but not being the playoffs?

Cooled off and he's still the leader in PER, by a large margin

If the OP was referring to the fact he's missed some games to injury he would be right, but AD is posting some historic numbers. The likes of which only Wilt, Jordan and Lebron have come close to touching.

I still expect his PER to be high but it will come down slightly over the next 40 games. My bet will that it will be between him and Lebron at the end of season who puts the best PER up.
