Eh everyone already knows that only the USA cares about the NFL. Was soccer ever big in the states? I know cricket was one of their biggest sports before their revolution and the marketing of baseball as a new american sport was soccer\nfl the same sort of thing?

For some reason soccer is huge here in the USA for pee-wee only.

I played soccer from ages 4-9 or so. I'm pretty sure the term "soccer mom" was coined here.

But once Jr High and High School come around soccer is still played but it takes a back seat to Football, Basketball, and Baseball.

Yeah I'm talking historically though, I imagine soccer is popular with parents for young kids because it's seen as a safer sport than NFL?

I don't even know, that makes sense I guess...I imagine football is becoming less popular for kids these days because of the concussion news going around.

I love football, but I don't want my son playing it...he can play the other stuff at a young age then if he wants to play football later in HS he can.

Seeing as 5 times more people watched a standard English League match on Saturday I don't think Soccer fans are too worried. The Superbowl isn't in the same spectrum.

And that is definitely the case with soccer. Yeah, we get it, it's popular. So is Justin Bieber, the Twilight books and the Transformers films. But can anyone argue it's a good spectator sport? Without exaggerating the abilities of the players or the action on the field?

Soccer players couldn't dream of producing the drama we saw yesterday, much less the tension of a game 6 of 2013 Finals. It's the only sport that can make tie game in overtime boring.

We're comparing football to fkn Justin Bieber in terms of popularity? Or any artist for that matter?

Makes no sense.. we're all aware of all the sports, and Football has dominated worldwide since.. ? ever?!

Now, I wouldn't even respond to you in a topic that clearly angers you, but how would you even know this? I can point to the latest damn Champions League final for just that drama..

Bieber was brought up to illustrate the fact that what "dominates the world" isn't necessarily what is best

neither is what is the oldest...or what requires the least amount of money to play

But, Football is universally thought of to be a better game.. among Men.

If we're talking Bieber we talk millions of feemale (mainly white) teenagers..

...really? Have you ever watched a quality soccer game? They are full of tension and drama, being such a low scoring sport makes it one of the most tense sports. When your club is up 1-0 and the other team is on the attack late every push is full of tension.

I feel the average NFL fan is more familiar with soccer than the average Euro is familiar with NFL

We watch World Cup here in the US...most of us sports fans follow the US team when that comes around

We know how it is...we understand the feel of the game

I don't feel like the average Euro is very familiar with gridiron....and I definitely don't feel like Africa/South America are either

I agree with that but as I said earlier when someone makes claims like a sport can't produce drama and doesn't have tension likely doesn't understand the sport fully. It happens with all sports, my family think the NBA is boring because to them it's just one team shooting then the other team shooting and whoever misses more loses. That's an actual description my Dad gave of the NBA. He thinks that because he doesn't see any of the off ball play or any of the tactics involved, doesn't understand the game situation at all. That's what the phantomcreeps post sounds like. NFL gets the same thing from non fans too, I don't particularly like the sport but I know there's a lot going on in a game that goes over my head that others find very entertaining.

You shouldn't mess up if you are a dignified journalist. Mistakes like these are easy to correct through a proper fact checking before submitting the post. The fact that they have a tool like Google makes it even more egregious.

Yeah I'm agreeing. It happens a bit now and it's mind boggling that someone doesn't pick up on the mistake or double check it. It's sad but a lot of journalists these days just get their jobs because they know how to generate publicity and web hits.

It's true Beas.

Europe is fascinating and amazing culturally and historically but to be honest, most Americans don't live their life fretting about what Europe is doing on a daily basis. We stay entertained by all the shit we have.

Europe is basically that chick that had you under her thumb, forcing you to live a lifestyle you don't appreciate or care for, leave her dumb ass after some friction (American Revolution) and then takes a while to shake off her effect but after a few years, you get ovr her and realize she wasn't shit in the first place.

Europe is that annoying, nagging ex gf that is far in your rear view window.

Probably avoided. Arabs are a pest here in NL. Fact that the Dutch Government gives free money to a woman with 5 kids that has been staying here for 20 years and does not speak a word Dutch is a disgrace.

some first generation immigrants regardless if their arabs, turks or russians will have issues learning a new language considering they barely used to go school in their country of heritage...the dutch govt gives money to that woman so she can bring up her 5 kids and win them over to society.
As it should be, it's important that the govt secures the next generation of immigrants but it won't be easy with guys like geert wilders around.
