Because "man's best friend" isn't just a corny saying--they're literally our closest ally in the animal kingdom, and they help us with everything. We have guide dogs, hearing dogs, hunting dogs, herding dogs, therapy dogs, sled dogs, cadaver dogs, etc. They even assist us during times of war:

Wild animals eat other wild animals. When you take a wild animal and make it a pet? You dont continue this lifestyle of the "wild". You fail to see that point. There are plenty of people who own wild animals as pets. From big ass snakes to crocs to even Bears. They do not, and I repeat do not intentionally FEED them other pets. That is a fact. And yes something like a snake diet may include certain animals we may consider as "pets". But there is a difference with a rabbit you deem a pet and deciding to feed it to another pet vs a rabbit you purchase from a store who is bait.
