View Full Version : Have any two NBA stars in their prime gone 1 on 1?

Durant's comment about playing for his all star spot made me think of this...

Has there ever been a 1 on 1 game between two current, in their prime, star/superstars? I'm not talking about charity or just half assing after practice where no defense is being played because no one wants to lose face.

I'm talking two guys trying to win like they were both going up against their older brother.

Magic and MJ almost did. They were gonna have a 1-on-1 game for charity around 1990, but Stern and the NBA squashed it.

The NBA used to have a one on one tournament all through the season the finals of which was during the finals at I think...a halftime. But they had a dumb format. A bigmen tournament and a guards one...where the two faced eachother in the final.

So it ended up being Bob Lanier backing down Jojo White over and over to get the 15K in prize money.

They need to bring horse back to the allstar weekend, but they should have a rule not to shoot the same shot twice in a row.

Shooting constant 3s is boring :facepalm

LeBron and Kobe went 1v1 during the 2008 All Star break, they had planned on doing it during their practice day but LeBron want it to be more secluded just in case he lost he didn't want word getting out. Needless to say Kobe won handily, LeBron had no answer for Kobe's copious post moves and LeBron utter lack of skill was clearly developed and exponentially furthered by Kobe. And it's not a surprise you've never even heard of this I was a janitor at the gym and was waxing the other side of the court while these two men played half court 1v1.

Shit, I could beat Rondo in HORSE. I would just shoot free throws.

You do know that Rondo shoots 98%+ on free throws in practice, right? He would annihilate you in HORSE

League made a 1-on-1 championship back in the 70's... Jo Jo White went up against Bob Lanier in the final round, so not much chances for him there:

Can't really see them doing it nowadays, or stars agreeing to it.

They also had a cool H-O-R-S-E championship, there's footage of various matchups up on youtube, here's one example:
