View Full Version : Breaking: The Spurs are back

They never left, tbh. But just to throw some facts out there

- the Spurs have not lost a single game this year with their entire roster active

- the Spurs are now 3 games behind the 3rd seed

- the Spurs now have their entire roster active, for the first time since Game 5 of the finals

- Championship is coming

Kawhi & TP looked back to form.
Duncan is as solid as ever.
Manu & the second team providing the spark every game.
Green has been mostly on as of late.
Mills is almost back to last year form.
Splitter is getting back.
Cojo is solid when you need him.
Belinelli getting back into form.
Baynes gives you what he gives you.
Bonner doing his thing.

This team is starting to look dangerously similar to last year's squad.

:biggums:

This year they've beaten

Hawks (#1 best record)
Warriors (#2 best record)
Grizzlies (#3 best record)
Rockets (#4 best record)
Blazers (#5 best record)

They've already beaten each of the top 5 teams in the league at least once. Next.

We haven't played any great teams recently. So far this season we've beat Portland, Phoenix, New Orleans, Houston, LA Clippers, Memphis, Dallas, Cleveland, Golden State, and Atlanta. Some of them multiple times. We'll be fine.

Agree. Spurs match up well against most of the West teams. But the Grizzlies would give them the most trouble. Grizzlies or a full powered Rockets are the two scariest teams for the Spurs imo.

Best to worst

Portland
Clippers

Warriors
Grizzlies
Thunder
Rockets

No idea what the Suns would be like. They haven't played a Playoff game with their current group.

Athletic teams scare me. Like I said, all of those teams would be tough outs, because the West is so strong. But I'd be happy with a Grizzlies/Spurs or Warriors/Spurs series. I'd like our chances.

Only because of the playoff criteria. The only reason they have a chance is because someone has to make the Finals out of that conference.

Not one team in the East would make it past the second round in the West.

Ugh, only two ****ing teams make it past the 2nd round... point is, the West has 8 elite teams and the East 3 (that can keep up with Western teams, Hawks/Cavs/Bulls). Still a big advantage, but yes, the East has 3.

Who are the elite teams in the East that have a shot at beating the West powerhouses?

I just don't see it, especially in a 7 game series. The only team that is a wild card is Cleveland but they are not going to put it together in year one.

How do the Hawks and Cavaliers not have a chance at beating powerhouses?!

1) When did I mention the Warriors?
2) Warriors are very good, but more than just Curry. I think they will underachieve but they would easily beat any Eastern Conference team except MAYBE Cleveland.

Also, those teams could lose to other Western Conference teams. Dallas/Houston/OKC/LAC could all get a favorable matchup and beat one of them.

Only teams that scare the Spurs in the west:
OKC (doesn't look like they're getting to the playoffs this year)
Mavs (Doesn't look like the rondo trade helped their bench much which is what hurt us last year)
Rockets (without Dwight at 100% we'll beat them)

So there you have it. Pop knows all the gameplans of Kerr and he'll destroy GS because we are the proven winners

I think the Grizz series depends a lot on Parker. When we swept them in the WCF 2 years ago, Parker went for 25/10/4/2 on .532. He went 23/6/5/1 to beat GS the series before.

The real question is who replaces Tim Duncan's production when he's done. Even at his age his size, length, and basketball IQ fills a gap at his position for the Spurs that will be sorely missed when his time is up.

The Spurs are done when Tim hangs them up.

They'll always be a Playoff team with Pop coaching, but we won't be a true title contender without him (unless they sign a superstar big who plays defense, which seems unlikely).

The leadership and defense will be impossible to replace.

Parker has been atrocious this year - doesn't belong in the picture much less the back seat.

Can't go by which teams Spurs beat in the regular season. Iirc, every top team beat up on them in the RS last year yet they won the title. When playoffs start, everything's reset 0-0.
