Doctors said smoking was healthy because 1) doctor's were clueless and had terrible technology compared to what we have now and 2) the tobacco industry lobbied extremely hard for that stance. That incentive does not exist for vaccines.

More newborns die from malnutrition or suffocation then pertussis....in fact a newborn chance of dying from pertussis is nothing compared to dying from malnutrition, suffocation, getting in a car accident.
