I'm not sure if I've ever seen anyone do this in a regular season game.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jKKLvMsKI0k

And the move helped him get the basket...it wasn't just done to look cool.

:applause:

PS...KJ McDaniels is player on the Philadelphia 76ers.

The guy in your username did it a couple times in Orlando. Kobe probably. I can't remember a specific play, but I remember him doing it.

Nice move tho.

Always felt this should be a travel, like it is or used to be in FIBA.
Call me a party pooper or whatever, it's an unfair advantage in my eyes.
You have no where to go, so you pass to yourself, which only ever comes off because no one expects it, as it's a violation in any other circumstance.
And it's actually not that hard to complete, once you think to complete it.

I've seen Lebron do it in Miami at least twice.

It's basically a missed field goal attempt. How can it be a travel?

I don't know why players don't do it more. It seems pretty easy for the athletic guys in the NBA as long as they have the room. They probably just don't think about it in the heat of the moment. I bet the NBA would ban it if guys starting doing it too much. It would start to get viewed as a cheap way to score sorta......

No it's actually a pass. He is passing it to himself, not shooting it.
It used to be travel, as it's an obvious pass to yourself. It is clearly not a shot.

What differentiates a pass from a shot? Marion's shot looks like a pass. Should it be considered a pass? :lol

So does it count as a field goal attempt and a missed shot on the stat sheet?

The intent of the player, which any ref anywhere near an NBA court can tell.

It was the the FIBA rule for sometime, not sure if they bowed to entertainment yet or not.

And it's actually not that hard to complete, once you think to complete it.Actually very, very true. I think it's become a little more common as people have slowly realized it's a possibility. Perfect for those in-between plays where you have nowhere to go without a dribble. To be honest, it doesn't have to be a dunk to be effective. Regular folk can pull off this play pretty effectively as well (though its legality in high school and other locales remains suspect).

Well they kinda lock themselves in that position. I think there's always better option on offense if your team has any decent off-ball movement.

Wouldn't that technically be a missed shot, o rebound and put back? Stat padders should be all over this.

Not surprised Kobe did it - he`d rather pass it to the backboard than his teammates. At least the backboard passes it right back :lol

Looks terrible to me.

Of all the selfish things to do in hoops this one irks me the most. Pass the ball to a damn teammate.

Green did it just this season (seemed like he shuffled his feet though), T-Mac did it, Kobe did it plenty, Bird was doing it in the 80's (minus all the dunking)...

I think I would have been more upset if he'd tried to kick that ball back out to one of the two possibly questionable shooters that were sort of open on the arc. I'd take the wide open dunk every time.
